We lived in Malta for just over a year in 1969 (Navy) We love Malta and the lovely Maltese people. I always thought that although the world is changing for the worse, that Malta would remain unchanged. Thank you for your beautiful videos, they bring back fond memories.

Wow! That's brilliant to hear you were in Malta in 1969. Yeah it is changing drastically unfortunately. I appreciate your comment.

Malta is a little gem 👌.. there are dwellings and remains underground that date a thousand years before the pyramids.. it never ceases to fascinate
@GordonTravels2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rich! It is a little gem indeed, but we constantly have to strive to keep it safe from the madness of constructions that is going on. Histroy shall be preserved for the next generations.

The people of Marsa have had to live with the stigma of being from Marsa for many decades, bearing the brunt of everything that the rest of the Maltese population did not want on their doorstep. Being called 'the most dangerous' neighbourhood for obvious click-bait does not benefit anybody except yourself. Marsa has been ignored by both political parties when in government, and the total abandonment you're seeing here is the result of years and years of disregard by the Maltese government. Marsa has benefited Malta and gone downhill as a result. It's about time this town and its people are recognised for what they've suffered.

Thanks for the video. Never knew it was called Albert Town, but it looks very familiar. When attending high school just up the road from there we used to come down to the bars to buy "Ftira" for lunch. I suppose what you did not mention is that 50 years ago that place was Malta's commercial hub, before the freeport was opened, hence all the warehouses. It definitely needs a clean up, and an upgrade. Cheers and Thanks.
@GordonTravels Жыл бұрын
Interesting Victor to read your story. I agree about the clean up and upgrade. Thanks for your comment!

It is called Albert town , named for Prince Albert, the husband of queen Victoria. That old arch on the water canal was from the time of queen Victoria, that's why on it inscribed in two circles you see the letters V and R for Victoria Regina. V . R . you can see them in old letter pillar boxes.

I worked at the Centre for migrants as a nurse about 10 years ago right next to the Tiger bar. It used to be a school but was closed down because of the smell from a nearby abattoir. Not the prettiest part of the island. But it is what it is.

I (female tourists) was here (by mistake) today. It looks like any other port/warehouse area. I have been in Portugal, in a small harbor town, and it looked like Marsa. It is not scary, it is just run down. Putting poor people in same category as criminals is very sad. You will ind more criminals in rich place areas.

The submarine was never functional, it was made for the 2000 U571 film which had scenes filmed in Malta. Officially its assigned as "Dock no 7" but us locals call it the ship cemetery. There are vessels that have been abandoned for years. It's also engulfed in a horrible stench.

VR Means Victoria Regina. In other words the canal and bridge was built during the reign of Queen Victoria. I walked the area a few years ago we walked from the waterfront all the was through to Marsha and then to Zabbar. Never really felt threatened but you do need to not look like a lost tourist though.😎

As a Maltese citizen your videos really annoy me. You are pestering people and expecting they talk to you while you are making a video that portrays them as villains. On the contrary, the video showcases very well your idiocy. Let people live and for the love of internet, post content that is mildly interesting not this garbage.

@@GordonTravels Hi Gordon! I'm trying to see if there's any mention of what was visiting at the time. It's got a black hull pennant number, so it narrows it down a little!
