Abandoned- 1905 Queen-Anne villa and a 1950`s Condo side by side/Treasure under the floors! :-)

Hey house lovers and explorers! This video I take you through 2 period homes side by side.
The first being a nice example of the Queen-Anne style architecture that was popular from 1905 through to about 1918 here in Adelaide and the second home another nice example of the modernism contemporary architecture that swept through after the 2nd WW and really taking hold in the 50`s.
Both homes have seen updates and remodeling but still hold the older appeal with old features remaining also.
Located in a very expensive area to live these two home sold for a bundle of money and became the all to common victims of development.
I visited these homes a few times and on the last occasion found myself on a treasure hunt finding a nice haul of old coins and hard to find tins also a few other things that find their way under the flooring.

Where I am in Canada the government actually put regulations in place because agricultural land was being sold away at such a rate the government became concerned if action was not taken evenly there would not be enough land left to grow food . Once placed in the agricultural land use a property can never be used for anything but that .

Beautiful homes, but I'm glad you managed to salvage those forgotten tins. Looking at the shoehorn brought back memories of when we tore off a mantle down from below a half chimney. It was was originally where the cook stove was set up. We found period calling cards and a couple of button hooks. Great documenting of vanishing styles. I'm glad they took the stained glass and the lovely light fixtures. Take care, stay safe and healthy.

Loved the archway detail the claw foot bath 🛁 was nice ready for a long hot soak. Wow you found some treasures too wonderful. The back garden was nice. Nice view by the way. Love the under floor finds - I’d love to have a dig around under the floorboards of old homes. The tobacco tins would probably have been left by the builders.

I just love your enthusiasm when you discover an old, period door knob, or skeleton keys, or turn of the century penny - it is contagious, you know? :) Your love (and appreciation) of the past puts a smile on my face, for certain. Hi Francoise :-) yep the old for me is better than the new :-) I have seen over and over again lately many old things including furniture get crushed and destroyed in the demolition process so I do not feel so bad now at least rescuing a few small things that would otherwise be lost. :-) Cheers for watching again Frenchy :)

I loved the stain glass in the Queen Ann villa. Great fine with the coins, I also would look closer to under the floorboard area of all the homes that you explorer from this time on. No one else would have the collect you would have congrads.

So many people are building modern style houses that are all featureless and all painted white....very sterile. And then these gorgeous houses full of amazing features and the feel of a home, get demolished or destroyed by modern renovations or vandalism. Once lost there is no going back 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I thank you Urbex for keeping their memory alive. 🌻🌻🌻

Loved the turret on the Queen Anne Villa....All the beautiful craftsmanship on show in these homes to be leveled for something similar to the unimaginative "box" that was next to them...This destruction will be regretted one day. Thank Goodness Urbex Indigo has the foresight to document these gems

I have a 1818 house that i bought after someone tried to restore but ended up doing considerable damage (water damage 😕 ) Restoring very old houses is expensive . But repairing and restoration is very expensive. I love old houses but sometimes not all can be saved.

Love the Queen Ann Villa but yes they failed on the reno's they did, like the windows I can see they thought they might look like the origanal. Cool finds in the last visit when they started to take it down. The 1950's place was really big. WOW the water way right across the street surely did bring up the price, But look at the junk they will be replacing those great homes with. Thanks for going back for the second and last look.

Oh wow! What a find! Old tobacco tins are collectables as are the coins. Far better for you to have them than them being buried in land fill somewhere. I have a ever seen a coin from 1904. Thank for the tours.

Both places were charming. The Victorian had too many of the beautiful details removed, but I loved the light fixtures in the 50's contemporary house. Love your presentation style; I'm definitely a fan.

Loved them both. Solidly built at a time people took pride in building. The new(ish) block at the side is characterless in comparison. Those art deco wall and ceiling lights were fantastic. Glad you stayed away from the bees!

Loved the Queen Anne house. Although some of the interior has been updated, enough of the original features remain so that one can see how it might have looked at construction. The garden for that home is so large. The '50s house seems to have some older features. I wonder if it was built from an earlier house. I enjoyed the old finds under the floorboards. It is a step back in time. Thanks for the explore.

Great video and a nice haul of predecimal coins and tins. Incidentally, we still used Ounces in 1971. Decimal currency was in 1966, on February 14th. Metrication in Australia effectively began in 1966 with the conversion to decimal currency under the auspices of the Decimal Currency Board. The conversion of measurements-metrication-commenced subsequently in 1971. Referee Tobacco was more than likely in the 1940's and made by B. Burt's in Brisbane. Thanks for sharing this video mate.

Can you for a moment, picture every 20 or 30 years the Queen Vic watching change until 1950, then another 20-40 and one thing is certain. Nothing is constant but change. ❤

House 1: Mum's back door used to have a lock and key like that one. Omg marble mantel, looks like they bricked the double flue in to separate it. Love everything about the front hall, you called the side entrance. Beautiful ceiling rose and light in the front bedroom. The turret is a nice reading spot in the bedroom, looks like good sunlight would come in there. 1.5mil and they be pulling it down.. don't see any cracks in this one too. I would say laundry not summer kitchen, cause there was no laundry in the house. wow the old shower, had to light it up themselves I see, to get hot water. The queen Anne even had a slate tiled roof. I think they removed the glossy top floor boards and left the original lower boards there. It's a shoehorn. A 43 penny and 46 halfpenny. It's amazing all the stuff that can be lost under the floorboards. You have a 55 sixpence but not a 57 coin. House 2: Was that a cork wood mantel? That's a nice wall air vent. Mum's was a little fancy but mainly just a grill. The house was big bit had been very modernized.

The fifties house exterior looks like a lot of the styles they are building now! Funny how architects and fashion designers seem to bring back styles from DECADES ago. Loved both houses, such a shame to lose them.

It's not just "key dates" that can make old coins valuable but also their condition, where they were minted and if there are any "minting errors " on the coins, so always pickup any you find and research them individually very carefully. Always open any old tins in case there is something of value inside them that doesn't rattle around as it's been wrapped in something protective. Great explore - as always !. Opposite King St Bridge Glenelg. The display home just got shifted off the property next door, the other day. Surprised these two houses weren't demolished when the others were. I believe these were rentals and the whole development was owned by one person, about 14 houses in all.

The facade of the Queen Anne Edwardian home is charming, apart from the replaced windows, that are not in keeping to the era it was originally built in. I love the internal ornate door fixtures, high ceilings and entry door surrounded by the original stained glass windows. What a fascinating find of olds coins and the depression era Referee Flake Cut Tobacco tins. I'm also curious about the outdoor cellar. The second property is spacious and would have housed a family quite comfortably. Thanks Paul for another interesting explore of two unique style houses.
