This is old post for comments, anyway.. -This guy calls you says he has a Chevelle in a shop that hasn't been touched in 10-15yrs. He wants you to detail it. You should of brought every trick in the detailer's book. Talk about going in blind. There's a dozen things that'll get that old ass tape glue off. "If" he told you the paint WAS new when it was parked, it should of been a no brainer to expect to 'wet sand' it. You could of hit up a local parts store for those materials. I don't think you wanted to take that much time on it. Yes, it looks great. But it could look much better. Thing is, is that'll a shit ton of work for a non running vehicle..

Who ever painted that car most likely early 80's must used some quality Paint to hold up to all that moisture when paper was laying on it. There was Some PPG paint that came out that was single stage that acted like 2 stage with option put clear on it.. that stuff was awesome. That Painter saved that car. but WD brought back to Life... now can we get a real car cover bring back to the streets....

I’ve used WD-40 to get duct tape residue off of cars. The tape had been on the roof holding some 3mil plastic over a leaking sunroof. The had put it on there until they had the money to have the sunroof replaced and resealed (took a couple of years, but the original duct tape and plastic sheeting worked). The WD-40 worked like a champ. After removing the residue I immediately washed, clay barred, compounded, then waxed. There were no visible lines where the paint had been. So basically… WD-40. LOL

@11:18 - I would suggest using WD-40. You can let it sit on the surface for a few minutes, then literally go back and rub it off with your fingers or a bristle brush, then go back and wash it to remove the residue from the WD-40.

Great video! On the clear coat, the only thing I know would be wet sanding with 1000, 1500, then 2000. This will make the clear very thin, be careful. Then buff, which I saw you do in the vid. It is a balancing act and some compromise no matter what. Great job!

I’d want this car. I had a 71 Malibu 350 that I learned to drive on and loved that car. I tried to get my dad to buy the SS 396 with a 4 on the floor in the original green with the racing stripe but the insurance for a 15.5 year old was too much - over $400 per year vs about $100 on the Malibu with an automatic. I remember the sticker on the SS 396 was $3,800 and on the Malibu was $3,500.

I think I'd go for an American car, but I'd pick it carefully. 1970 was about the last year for powerful, good looking American cars for quite a while! DL brand hand cleaner is nice and thick and could be smeared on and not fall off. It's kind of oily and would absorb into the adhesive. I had a sign shop for thirty years so and I used it for all kinds of sticker goo. That stuff will remove VINYL INK off your hands, so a little tape gum is no problem. next best thing would be mineral spirits. Lay a paper towel on the area and give it a squirt of spirits and let it soak for ten minutes.

angle scraper + engine cleaner/degreaser to remove any stubborn glue. Parked my 4runner under mango tree, the sticky glue coming out of the mango branches, leaves stuck like solid cement.

Hey. I sent you a letter and I hope you got it. It's about an idea for you to clean even a wider variety of vehicles such as larger trucks.

Why in the world would someone tape newspapers to a car. Absolutely insane. I would no way have taken this job.

Such a sin, that poor car. It’s not on you guys, I’m sure it would be beautiful if you had the chance. Let’s hope he can finish that car soon. It belongs screaming down the road.

Bro no offense because ultimately you're the one that's cleaning that car but you're doing an average job man like you're just leaving the rims not even clean if you would get the right cleaning chemicals you can make all that stuff look brand new again
