Robert, my son has the same car in his barn ready to get started. Him and his dad and brother have previously done a 68 Coronet with a 440 6 pack and a 69 Charger R/T with a 318, you know Mopar or no car lol! Won many a trophy with those cars. Due to unforseen circumstances we had to sell them all but we kept the Dart. Good luck , keep up the good work and watch out for the rats and ants, they love to eat seats and wiring!

The 1969 Chev half ton truck I choose to drive instead of our 1974 Impala car was this exact shade of 'puke green' as your Dart. Or Chevrolet's version anyway haha. I bought a hunter green 1970 Dart off the lot, first one sold in town. Put over 75,000 miles on it in less than three years, and traded it off for a lime green 1973 Dart, with a vinyl top. The '70 was a slant six, but the '73 was a v-8. I loved my Darts!! We had lots of fun with them. Hope you get this one running, and have a blast with it.

I remember the old mopars had the same solenoid on the fender that ford did. Could jump the starter from there. May have to get some jumper cables to the starter from underneath, just to test the starter. Need a light tester and check the coil for power, etc. That ground line did hook up to the manifold bolt. Check the fuse box.

The 318 was a really great engine. We had a Plymouth with one. I used to take it out on the famous Woodward Ave in metro Detroit. There was a lot of drag racing from stop lights. Besides Joe Q Public, the automotive engineers used to bring experimental vehicles out there to check on their performances. No body ever beat me from a dead stop at the light. It was fun!

I’d been given a car that sounds and looks like yours. Luckily, it had a bench seat in the front because the drivers door hinge was rusted so, you had to get in from the passenger side and slide over. It had been named “The Bean” due to the Lima bean color.

But after seeing how you fix cars I’m scared! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 ♥️♥️♥️♥️👍👍👍👍 On a serious note and I’m sure you know the carburetor I think you know also don’t you put some gas in it??? I think that what my dad did when he was working on cars back in the day. And alternators and myself ugh…. I went to switch one out years ago on a Chevy Beretta I had. Dumb me was to rush rush and forgot to disconnect the battery first! 😆 there was a small spark there. But it’s good I’m still alive after all these years. The spare tire from the trunk has at least another 10,000 miles 😉😆😆😆 Stay safe looking forward to part 2! 👍

🤣 Robby thinks so much of us he saves the mouse turd jobs to share with us. I'm so honored. Fifteen yrs ago we cleaned up a '68 Charger R/T 440 barn find owned by an old WW2 pilot who became an aerial ag applicator flyboy when he got home from the war. He'd parked the Charger in an old wood barn with a dirt floor, in the middle of a cotton field. I vacuumed 10 5 gal buckets of cotton mice had packed into the curvy rear quarter panels of that car. To keep heat from building up inside the car the owner had cracked the windows just enough for a mouse to squeeze in. Car had a white vinyl interior with marina blue carpet. We spent 2 winters cleanin it out and deodorizing it. We shipped it to a CA collector in 2008 for $45K after a rotisserie paint resto and complete engine OH. Prolly didn't make a dime if we counted our labor.

To the body of the car ground strap that Establishes the ground plane it needs it to run. In the old ford trucks it wouldn't start unless you had it hooked to the hood. Find any bolt near the ground strap that's bolted to the body make sure you have clean metal to get a good ground

Haha yeah, I actually used to be a “will it run” guy before the OBF. Of course back then I was a little more prepared and had a stocked backyard shop. Actually working on old cars is what has largely inspired me to fix the OBF. I figured I’d look at it like I did when I built my ‘57 Chevrolet. Remove the rust “rot” and put in new. One piece at a time.

Bad ground? Up in the rust belt where I live, most of those Darts ended up in the boneyards by the mid ‘80’s. The front subframes all rusted out and they fell on the ground. My friend would buy them up and rebox the front torsion bar mounts. One of them had a worn out slant 6, and it was the only thing that started on a -24 morning. Poor compression so it spun right over. He had to jump my ‘64 Impala with it, and then his ‘69 340 Dart. Slanter saved the day

Those old slant six Darts were unkillable. You can always just reupholster that little strip in the driver's seat. 805Roadking, here on youtube, has video of repairing the seats on his old Ford truck. There is also a channel called Old School Auto Upholstery Techniques that shows how to just fix what is wrong with a seat. You might not have a perfect color match, but it would be much less annoying than a seat cover. These were definitely a grandma car, but they were a dead dependable grandma car. Okay, did you bar that engine over first to make sure it was free? Have you checked your battery ground to make sure it is clean and in good condition? Your starter relay isn't even clicking, so you aren't getting juice. Check both ends of your battery cable. Make sure they are clean, firmly connected, not covered in grease and dirt, and don't have the green crusties. Also, when you do get current to that starter, this is not a 2020 Dodge. You don't just turn the key and expect it to start. Usually in that era, you had to pump the gas a few times before you turned the key. You aren't going to start it with both feet on the ground outside the car. Check all your powers and grounds first, and then actually read that owner's manual before you start it. The manual will tell you what the starting procedure is. Your main problem is a lack of power to the relay switch. After that, you will have to learn how that particular car starts.

Loved the price you gave for the Dart. Rather appropriate. Luckily this car isn't from where I live or it would have been all rusted up. Question - my knowledge of engines in basic at best, so you could put the alternator wherever you want to and I wouldn't know the difference, but what does the term "mopar" mean? Your friend's truck looks extremely similar to one my dad had and absolutely loved. He ran that thing until it couldn't run any more. It was a good truck and after he retired, my parents used to go traveling with it and an old camper on the back. It was a lighter blue. Hope you get the old ugly Dodge Dart to run.
@THEOLDBYRDFARMVLOG
@THEOLDBYRDFARMVLOG Жыл бұрын
I honestly didn’t know the answer to your question about Mopar, so I looked it up. Here’s what Wikipedia says: The name is a portmanteau of the words "MOtor" and "PARts". "Mopar" is also used as a nickname by enthusiasts of Chrysler-built products to refer to any product built by the company. Mopar also designs and builds a small number of customized vehicles.

Points? Also the ballast resistor if its not firing. My favorite color of green I had a green four door Coronet loved that car used it as a surf rig and cancer killed it.
