Helical/Torsen diffs need constant pressure (weight) in order to work. On a lift and up in the air it will act as an open, but if there is weight on both wheels then it will work. Only downside is if you get wheel hop or lift a wheel it'll go open again because there's no weight to counter the diff. So basically if both wheels are on the ground it'll act as a limited slip diff, but once one wheel is up in the air it's going to be open. Just swap it out for a clutch type.

Amy did great on the manual - seeing how proud you were of her Vin made my day, and brought back a lot of memories. I remember teaching my GF to drive manual on my 94 RX7 back in 1997, she was terrible and so scared of it, but eventually learned and would take it out when I had flown away for work on the sly when she wasn't supposed to drive it. I was proud of her having the guts to sneak it out when I found out more than anything, because I'd taught her to drive it.

I think it's a VLSD, and until the pressure builds up the wheels don't lock. So, it checks out that both wheels wouldn't spin on the lift, but clearly they are locking up in the burn out clip. Also, keep it. The s14 is the best chassis, no matter what I buy I always come back.
@christophergreene47964 ай бұрын
Torsen/helical units are great for autosports applications. They do not have to be shimmed or have the clutches replaced and they typically last until you overwhelm them with power. the lock up is more graduated and predictable, which makes for earlier back-to-throttle mid corner and faster corner exit. They cost more than clutch style ones, but do not require friction modifier. The drift crowd always shims the clutch style to act like a just about welded diff for way more lockup, but in a autocross/roadrace application, this makes the car just a bit more unstable and can create understeer when getting back on the gas, whereas the torsion unit will let the contact patches of the tires stay planted by not scrubbing against each other

I had an S13 with a CA18DET with a fully built motor and GT28R turbo. Only downside, oil likes to pool in the head so long high speed runs were terrible for the motor. BuddyClub Spec II exhaust, Japanese tune for 7700 RPM Redline, weight reduction, Megan Racing Coilovers 12/10 springs, fully spherical bearings arms, and poly bushings. Could walk most cars on the Autobahn. I am a grip driver but fun overall. Now in a S550 Mustang GT PP1 and as much as I love the SR20DET, you can't get me out of the V8. Ugh I hate being a car guy!! Great video bruv!!

Vin, you need to unplug the fuel injector connectors or disconnect the fuel pump relay in order to keep fuel from spraying in the combustion chamber while doing your compression test. The fuel will wash your cylinders down and give you inaccurate PSI values.

Viscous diffs don’t lock until there is fluid pressure to lock the plates up, it’s better than a mechanical lsd because it’s smoother and you can tune the lockup characteristics by swapping or rearranging the plates.

Repainting has its up's and down's. If you go back with the original paint code for the car and the paint shop does the correct thing in taking the car to almost bare metal and redoing the primer as well as the paint. The value of the car will not go down, if you just do a scrub and spray then yes the value will go down. Just depends on how far you want to go with this. It is am amazing car and I hope the car stays for a while!

Best way to score a "barn find" is to do construction work in rural areas. When I was a kid, my dad found all sorts of cool stuff when he would do work on peoples' houses in the country. They'd often just barter for more work. I remember one time he got a 60's Corvette that was literally in a barn in trade for adding a deck to a guest house he was already building.

Normally on a limited slip diff, you would spin the right wheel and both wheels turn in the same direction Vin, but you turned the left wheel, also if it wasn’t a lsd, the wheels would of turned in the opposite direction when you spun either wheel, seeing you laid down a pair of elevens, I’m sure you know it’s a lsd, great car great buy dude.
