Whoa definitely a cool JDM time capsule, since is pretty hard to find stock ones in such relatively good shape i would keep this one as it is just inside-out many of the parts and features it has are discontinued, so yeah fresh rubber, belts gaskets some new spark-plugs and fresh fluids (oil, brake oil, coolant) it is a very cool vehicle to any cars & coffee ..

Hi gang . I'm a 67 y.o. man who bought a 1996 Nissan d21 pick-up new ( 346,000 mi. ) now and I'm noticing a lot of off the shelf parts used in both vehicles . Love that KA24-E engine . Same 5 spd manual transmission , 1st clutch job done at about 327,000 mi. I'm crazy for that vintage Nissan ! Enjoying your videos ! ❤ ..

The KA24 engine was designed for that truck of yours soley. Then nissan decided to bring the Silvia to the US, and took the 2.0 turbo (SR20DET) out and put in that guy.

You'd be surprised at how much of the D21 is shared with the 240SX, a fair amount of the suspension in the front is the same as a 240 as well

I bought a new 1990 240SX, red, 5spd, coupe, base model for $13k. Beautiful car, engine and transmission was very smooth, loved that car. 140hp was not bad at all back in 1990.

The passive seatbelts were invented because at the time the use of seatbelts was much lower. The shouder belt stayed connected and moved once the door was shut as shown. They were "unsafe" because the lap belt could still be left off. I think some people got tangled up in them and choked too. Airbags were more popular because they weren't annoying, but also cost a lot more. Lots of airbag injuries over the years, and a number of deaths, but that is another story. Also a lot of totaled cars due to the high cost of airbag replacement in very minor accidents. On the plus side, they have saved the lives of a lot of people especially the ones that ride around without a seat belt.

I have a real soft spot for this Gen of the 240SX This car was my 1st big purchase after graduation in 94. So many fond memories of me and my now wife wife going on dates and my friends always wanted me do drive when we went somewhere, lol. I would love to own an unmolested one like this again someday.

Yeah. Don't mean to be a hater or anything but did they even clay bar the car? And that was a super basic polish. Brought back a slight shine but the car looked fairly rough still. And what about paint protection? They're just leaving it raw?

The order he cleaned was odd. He cleaned the wheel then washed the top. The dirt flowed onto the clean rims and made them dirty again. Thats why I leave the wheels for last and work from top to bottom when I wash my car.

Yeah a “clean” car still looks dirty with dirty tires and wheel wells. Especially the plastic lingers , I clean the fuck out of those and stormy cheap tire shine on em. The tire shine keeps em cleaner longer.

@@spaghetti941 It's not unlikely the owners (or the son-in -law in this case) have a financial say in that too. WD Cleaning don't do this for free, although many people seem to think so. It's a good basic clean but not over the top for that reason. If the owners have to do more work anyway, at least repairing the rust holes and getting the engine back in working order, the car will inevitably get dirty again. The cleaning can be an incentive to get that work actually done, though. You can now see what you're working with, what it can become by putting the work in and eventually have the car back on the road in the near future instead of gathering dust and dirt in that barn.

I drove the same car for 2 years, somewhere in 1999 and had a lot of fun, especially in winter, when it snows. At that time I was young and did not know how to appreciate its exceptionality, today I would like to have it again, in a few years we will all be driving cars on batteries and the fun will be irretrievably lost. It was rare in Europe even then and attracted a lot of looks and questions, a really good and quality car. It was made for the American market and I had trouble getting parts, especially brake pads, I couldn't find those parts and there was no online shopping at that time. It had an automatic gearbox, although at that time I would have preferred a manual one but I used the override button all the time and I didn't spare it but I didn't grind it either, the engine and gearbox lasted everything, without any breakdowns for 2 years of driving by someone who was 26 years old at the time and who drove every day like he is at the race.

I owned the same '89 model in the off white color, 5-spd manual. It had 79K kms when I bought it used in 1995 as my 1st car. The Canadian spec model had the manual front seatbelts. The KA24E SOHC engine only had 155 hp but torque was about the same so it had awesome pick up from a full stop sprint. What it lacked in hp, but the 50/50 weight distribution made up the fun-to-drive in corners and winding roads. I could never remember why I sold it in Dec 2000.

Most of the time I am not all that impressed by your work, but enjoy the before and after shots. Start using a sqweegi for your final wipe on the inside of your windshield. I had a maroon '89 240SX and it had the auto seatbelts. In Oregon in those days there was a huge push for seatbelt safety, so we left them in place and never strapped the lap belts... not the safest way to travel, but like you said- less concerned with safety back then and it kept us from getting pulled over.

I felt your pain with the condition of the hatch area. I once worked at a VW dealership and was had a used car in for certification, the trunk was absolutely disgusting. Mice had been living the suite life and definitely made themselves at home. Also I had an 89' Mazda 626 that had the two piece seatbelt, it definitely was a fascinating feature. Although I almost failed my driving test before it even started because I forgot to do my lap belt lol. Nice video fellas!! Great work as always!

On top of being more expensive to produce, no one used the lap belts in vehicles with passive restraint systems. The automatic shoulder belts were used by default. This led to serious injuries and deaths. In addition, they were impractical and less comfortable for passengers. Hence the passive restraint system was discontinued in the late 1990s

with my probe i actually only used the auto belt and never buckled the lap belt cause like you said its kinda cool that it does it on its own but having to mess with the lap belt sucked so we just didnt use the lap belt, the lap belt was only good when the sholder belt motors stopped working and the owners were too lazy to fix them.

Early 90's was awesome and 21:59 you are wrong, we only utilized the automatic belt. My friends and I rarely ever used the lap belt. Safe? No. But that's how it was.

Actually, I seen similar seatbelts like that in police cars when they put the people on the back seat so basically they really didn’t discontinue it. It’s usable if you get locked up and end up in the backseat of a police car.
