I work there as a mechanic and they're not abandoned, their in storage and a lot of planes we return to service to fly again. And then there's also planes that are torn down for parts and then get crushed for scrap.

I didn't know Kingman was an airplane junkyard. I drove through it once. I wondered about all those DHL planes parked there. I figured it was some kind of cargo hub. Guess I just learned something new.

Kingman Airport was a graveyard for WWII way back when.there were rows of P39’s there waiting to be melted down. What a crime!
@ronaldwarren52205 жыл бұрын
I live here. Thanks for the video! The city is trying to have the contaminated soil cleaned up from where the WWII aircraft were smelted down. Great place to start a business as the airfield is now under new management and the industrial part is doing well. Close to I40, Laughlin and Las Vegas Nevada too.

@deluxejay695 жыл бұрын
I worked for the company that's dismantling those planes. While it's true that the planes aren't "abandoned", they aren't being used for parts. Once they get to the teardown pad no more parts will be removed from them to use on other planes. They are actively torn down, loaded into dumpsters, and taken to a recycling facility. EDIT: I actually watched the video and saw that they never even went to the teardown area. Yeah, all the planes you see in the video are owned and operated by locals. They are actively flown.

I've driven up to the Yellow Pine Ranch many times. Nestled in the Hualapai Mountains. You can drive through it to get to BLM land and county rec parks nearby for camping. There's a small landing strip there, doesn't look active. The ranch is still operational with cattle and horses from what I can see.
