A trick to get the gland seal in the smaller cylinders without the tool, is to use a small zip tie tight in the middle . Then bend it to the kidney shape, set in groove, then use small flush cut pliers to cut the ziptie. Pull the cut zip tie out and it pops right in the groove . Thats what ive been doing on my 580ck cylinders..so far no leaks.

Thanks for another update on the machine. Maybe the one dislike is your local hyd shop that didn't earn a $1000 selling you seals and resealing the cylinders L.O.L. I reseal quite a few for guys and on our own machines when needed. Yes technically they need to be done as clean as possible, but with a machine like that with watered oil and the abuse it's had over the years the damage is probably already done to the system anyway. It's still better now than when the last guy used it with bad filters and crappy oil, now you are servicing it. Air in the cylinders L.O.L I hate those transport locks on the Case machines. My JCB has a drop in pin so there isn't all that messing with bouncing the boom just the right way. Looking forward to more updates and to see when you start the fun part using it. Take care.

After using 10' cheater on my 3/4" socket or custom made hex box end wrench to break the piston nuts loose I would have never guessed that electric impact would remove the nuts!! Your viewers should not miss the fact that you put the rods back into the hoe with the pins to hold them and need to support the piston end if using a bar to break the nut loose (or re-torque) instead of the electric impact. 750 ft-lbs torque re-assembling the piston nuts. Who knows how much to remove a nut after 10 years? great video! music...not so much.

What year is your machine? I just bought a 79 last year. These videos will help me! I have to do a lot of what you are doing, but mine runs & drives. Needs brakes, guages, filter changes, maybe a cylinder rebuild or 2, sheet metal work, wiring, etc. I don't have a backhoe, just a 3 point hitch. But I bought a 3 point backhoe I have to adapt to it. I need to figure out how to get hydraulic pressure to the backhoe. Can you do a video showing how to add pressure & return hoses to the manifold? I just need to know which one is which.

I think mine is 1980. I believe that's the last year before they named them 580d

I think the best place to look would be the service manual for the hydraulic circuits because there are several different loader valves that these came with. That's what feeds the backhoe.

I just remembered something about hydraulic jacks. you can turn up the high pressure screw and it will go beyond its normal range. I had to do that on a cheap floor jack to raise up the back of our Suburban. Before I did that it would barely even lift one wheel off the ground. I think they set that screw to low at the factory on many jacks.

This is why those who don't do maintenance in their vehicles and machines end up loosing them once they get unoperational because of any of the things you're doing they lack to. That's why also people like you gets them cheaper, give them the time and love they need, bring them back to life and they end up in a living home serving you for the longest. I guess the original owners burn them out getting their most money out of them by using them with no compassion until they left them because they can't just get all the abuse but if they were more patient and practical they'll understood they need to stop their machines for maintenance instead of exploding them broken. Well, that's why exist them and us. They can't figure it out and is not convenient to us neither lol.

Sheesh. A lot of folks are having a tantrum and taking an imaginary high ground over a video blog. He's not working on your mothers tractor so get over it. It's his toys to do with as he pleases and none of this has been presented as a "How To" instructional video. When he buggers it up we get more videos and can smirk and giggle all we want :P On a serious note, Mike, you really should flip those rod seals around. By the time they become a problem it's become an expensive problem. Do you really want to risk those piston rods? A backwards one-way seal is going to grab dirt and sand like a funnel and press it against the rod and score it up. Then the schmutz is going to get a free ride past the inner seal into the cylinder and start trashing that as well as the pump and you may not find out about it until that hour so of rework becomes more hours and $1000. I noticed that every joint I could see in the video has trashed bushings or pins. Will you be doing any of those or wait till you get some seat time and use out of the girl? p.s. I agree, that looped piece music was annoying.

Hi I noticesd that the oil tat came out of the cylinder was heavily emulsifired. Lots of water in oil. This is not good. Should have emptied the oil tank, drainded all the oil from hoses and valves. Flush the hydraulic systen with the minimum oil level and discard. When you replaced the rod gland seal pack, it gave me the impression that you fitted the scraper seal with the lip facing inside. It should be facing to the outside. That way it cab scrape off any dirt and water. Just a comment.
