I’ve been detailing cars for over 45 years. The way you guys did this car was incredible. The super black paint and the blood red leather that cleaned up so beautifully is a testament to the quality of Mercedes Benz materials. This car new was over $3,000 dollars. You could have a Chevy or a Ford for $1,200. The first two cars I ever detailed for money was a Chocolate Brown 1979 Mercedes 450 SEL sedan and a 450 SL convertible in Silver with a black top. Both owned by a local surgeon and friend of the family. They paid me $50 to detail both cars. All by hand since there were no buffers. I thought I had the world by the ass to make $50 doing something I love. Well done gents.
@nathanglynn7443 Жыл бұрын
@michaelbigdongovic3295 he said he detailed it a long time back, given it was a local surgeon im assuming it was close to when these cars came out, things were a lot cheaper back then and money held a fair amount of value.

One detailer made an interesting comment. He was called to New York to detail a rare 1990s Mercedes convertible. The owner picked it up after it sat in a parking lot outside for over a year. It was so badly neglected that he thought the paint couldn't be saved. However, the client paid up front so he decided to tackle the job. The gunk and grime were so thick that he resorted to an unusual technique: he pre rinsed the car as thoroughly as he could and went over it with a foam cannon, making sure he mixed the soap extra thick. Then instead of rinsing the foam, he immediately took out a freaking ginormous clay bar and ran over the entire car with it. He had to fold it so many times that it was totally ruined. After the the clay bar detailing was done, he showed the bar. It was yellow when new but had turned almost completely dark gray. He stretched it out as much as he could and it was so saturated with dirt and crap that he had to throw it away. It was a $40 bar! Yikes. But after the second wash, he got up close and inspected every inch of the body. The paint was fine. Not even one chip or badly oxidized spots anywhere on the body. How is this possible when it never was in a garage? He theorized that not washing the car for so long resulted in the dirt protecting the paint from the elements and the car was in just the right kind of weather for that to occur. Not that he'd recommend doing it. Ironically, washing the car every few months would have simply exposed the paint to the elements, increasing the chances of damage. Strange how severe neglect helped save the paint in some way.

And how comes the engine control electroinics and accesories are designed to fail in 5 fkin years exactly after you buy a car but the safety systems like ABS and Airbags last a lifetime usually? cuz governements won't allow them to underengineer thoes, and it wold be a pretty big hit to sales. Great channel and great work! Watching this now. Will ask one thing: do NOT power wash a dry, dusty car; you may as well sand blast that paint. For a car like this, with layers of dust/dirt, first wet thoroughly with an ordinary hose from top down. Once car is soaked; use a pressure sprayer with a mixture of water and Dawn dishwashing liquid to soak the entire car top to bottom. Suggest one cup Dawn to one gallon water. You should use a minimum of one gallon to coat entire car with the soapy mixture. NOW you can blast aawy with the pressure washer. Keep a reasonable distance. You will find . 1 Everything will come off faster and more completely and 2. your next wash (hand wash) will be much easier and more thorough.
