That’s actually a phenomenon that occurs with “tired” and fading/heavily oxidized paint, as this car most certainly was. It appears hydrophobic as it’s oxidized, thinning, and ultimately failing as time continues on. I assume these fellas were smart enough to use a paint depth gauge before beginning the enhancement via polishing to make sure they weren’t thinning out this single stage paint to the point where they could burn through, because paint that old and frail would have been dangerously thin. All in all, the result the achieved was fantastic and these guys as well as the owner seized an opportunity to rescue this original paint just barely before it was too late. Because paint that was reacting that way before polishing of this age was telling a story much worse than meets the eye. The owner has an invaluable gem on his hands. And he rescued his car and his paint just barely before it was too late. Some food for thought. :)

The only reason I watched this video is because I have two potential clients who both have e36 m3 sedans they want me to detail, and I was thrilled to see this video. These days there are a few around for sale at mad money . Though the E30 M3 is my first choice . I wouldn't say no to any of the later ones . Nice work on the E36 . it's great seeing cars ( any cars ) coming back to life . Great content as always . Back to the E30 . In the 80s I was fortunate to be over on the Isle of Man for the Manx Rally . Which back then was part of many Rally championships. Particularly the European Rally Championship. A Belgian driver Patrick Snijers was driving a pro drive built GpA BMW M3 Rally car . This guy this car perfect match lead from start to finish pretty much . Flat out on the tarmac stages . That car was singing . Apart from a Gp 4 works mk2 escort . Ives never heard anything like it . Normally aspirated absolutely flat out .
