I worked on this ship back in the day at weekends. It was actually supposed to end up facing the other way but they misjudged the tide when it was getting towed in and had to settle for it facing the wrong way. Also stayed over on a few Saturday nights in what used to be guest cabins, damp and miserable but it saved driving back to Liverpool after a few drinks 😊. Brings back a lot of memories, thanks for sharing.

It was apparently called Fun Ship because it had an arcade in it. I read somewhere that there was pinball machines inside worth a few bob ?
@JonnoAndrews7 ай бұрын
It did, I was on a forum that dealt with the excavation of the machines kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJTclqmHe995jc0
I explored that ship VERY throughly in the early 90's............ No fun stuff we could find, I never even saw the arcade open or in use, and I was born 1980.....
Search " Duke of Lancaster arcade raid initial inspection visit" it's video of all arcade cabinets inside before they went for sale.

The Duke of Lancaster was never a cruise liner it was the Irish ferry from heysham to Belfast for years along with it’s sister ship Duke of Argyle
@BRM1016 ай бұрын
Built at Harland & Wolff, Belfast, launched on 1 December 1955 and completed in 1956, she was designed to operate as both a passenger ferry (primarily on the Heysham to Belfast route) and as a cruise ship.[3][4] In this capacity, the Duke of Lancaster travelled to the Scottish islands and further afield to Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway and Spain.[2][5]

The Duke of Lancaster has spent more time at Llanerch y mor (1979 - 2024) than she spent at sea (1956 - 1979). I remember being violently sick on her during a very rough crossing from Dun Laoghaire back in the 1970’s.

My great Auntie lived near Rhyl, we visited the ship most visits, either for the huge outdoor markets, or latterly, a giant fabric warehouse, I think when the Fabric place opened, the markets had stopped, and the ship boarded up......... I think the textile site was called Abercan' 6 year old me had many fantasy moments, dreaming of stealing that ship, and being a pirate somewhere around the Isle of White 😅
