I had a 73 Dart Sport SS that I bought with a blown 318 in it. It was an original 340 (automatic) car. I dropped my 225 slant 6 in with a 3 speed manual. My brother-in-law sold me a Chrysler 3 speed/overdrive transmission cheap (50$?). The only changes I had to make was a different drive shaft. I later found a (long) pistol grip shifter at a flea market for 8$. My father-in-law helped me shorten it. Turned out great, the boot covered the cut and weld, you'd never know it was a cut down tall shifter. I could 30 mpg all day long with that set up. It was originally from North Carolina, so it had a rust free body. A set of white Corinthian leather seats from a Cordoba finished up the interior. Wish I still had that car. Enjoying your build, looking forward to seeing it finished. Wish I could come and help. God bless and stay well.

I normally don't like changing engines to efi later motors but for a 73 Challenger that isn't worth the money the 70 71 are I love it ! I love how you are building this with the A -33 over drive trans and love the way you are going on the engine lower temp thermostat and doing away with the cylinder killers this is going to haul ass@ Good job dude!

I used to work at a CJD dealer and the reason the cams failed in the Hemis was because the early vct solenoid had a mesh screen that would blow out sending metal though the engine. The engines we replaced were well serviced.

Uncle Tony's Garage did a video recently on why the cams fail in those motors. You might want to check it out. It boils down to a design flaw that doesn't allow enough oil to get to the cam.

The lifters do not get oil while you're idling if you never leave the car sitting idle for long periods of time you don't have that problem but yes maintenance would prolong the problem but in vehicles that sit and idle for long periods of time

The mds is a strong suspect with the cam failure thing so is lack of oiling to the cam below 2000 rpm so a thicker oil and a high volume oil pump is probably a good idea love the build by the way ✌️

#30 With this engine and ecm you have a souped up classic. Just tell curious people you have a stock 318 in. Understatement. and then, push the throttle^^..... I suggest to use an oil cooler. When y use the cooler and fan from a new challenger it should work. And mind to use also the fan shroud. Titanium exhaust. Saw a big smile in your face. Good job.

The reason the cams fail is because people run them at low RPM. The crank case design in the Hemi is the culprit. It takes 2500 rpm before oil is thrown up to the cam properly.

I like all of the measurements you provided. The one measurement I that seams important to me is the width of the engine package measured at the outside of the exhaust manifold flanges on each engine. Would that play into how this engine will fit between the inner fenders and maybe more importantly how the steering column is connected to the steering box??
@DylanMcCoolVideo
@DylanMcCoolVideo 4 жыл бұрын
Good thing about the manifolds I’m using is that they’re the best option for power steering. I don’t have that so it doesn’t matter to me, but they’re still the most roomy manifolds.

@DylanMcCoolVideo

Yes, but then I’d still be using the factory TPS, and the Holley system uses an LS style TPS. For how cheap an adapter and LS throttle body is, it’s hard to not go that route.

@@DylanMcCoolVideo tire shine protects mufflers; and unless painting soon, one can prevent lots of rust by going to the self serve car wash, selecting liquid wax, and spraying all likely rust areas especially the underside, most of the engine compartment, spare tire compartment, and inside the doors and rocker panels, all every 3 months. hit the floor pans too if you can take up the carpets.
