Lovely vid as always. Roxul is awesome and pretty pest-proof too as an added bonus. But pretty sure that insulation shouldn't be folded/rolled/stuffed into a space like that. Kills the r-value. Could have sliced it to the width of the space and piled up for more insulation. Interested what others think.

Awesome! Totally get the almost buyer's remorse when the reality sets in. We bought a 1943 farmhouse in the Kootenays (after being inspired by your channel to make a move from the west coast to experience more of our beautiful province). Then spent more than the purchase price renovating it to temp occupancy. Still lots of finishing and details that we will do, but absolutely enjoying the "fruits of our labour". Thanks so much for this and the inspiration.

Good job guys. Hay Dustin, always cut your insulation and fluf it out to fill as much of the cavity as possible. Never fold or compress insulation. Be sure to leave a bit of breathing space above the roof insulation and under the roof sheathing. Always install a vapor barrier on the warm side of the insulation to prevent condensation on the backside of the exterior wall and roof sheathing. Cheers.

What a great public service you are providing ! I am a mother of 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren. AND ... I was a broker, investor and lawyer for around 45 years before retiring. I've counseled many young people in the Austin area about housing and financial literacy. Tools and information like this should be taught in school. It amazes me how many young adults don't even know the basics, like how property taxes are calculated and what jurisdictions impose them. Not only are you taking care of yourself and your future, and your family's future, you are reclaiming homesteads which were abandoned. Bravo !!!

That defective water tank...the one filled with stuff...the cage can be used for firewood the plastic cut in half can be used for a winter greenhouse roof for raised garden beds....

@@LAStars-sratS Firstly it was a 'food grade' tote...secondly, as a 'cover' for frost...not to put soil in it...and finally, you do you...90% of all soils on the planet will have some sort of chemical residue....it is also reported that approx 98% of all humans have Glysophate residue with-in their cells....If you have ever bought fresh fruit, veggie's and or any processed foods...you are eating products with 'chemicals' in them....
