It's actually a converted Egyptian air force base, to give it something to do. Egypt has far too many underused airports and air force bases. Converting air force bases to airports rarely works out well anywhere.

It gets even more fun. Over on the east side of Cairo in the desert they've converted and expanded another air force base there to "Capital International Airport". Not the same as Cairo International Airport. It's supposed to be for the New Administrative Capital (fabulous name for the New Cairo). But it has no flights, just a big ol' empty terminal.

I think those experiences are just as unique as anything you could plan for. Quirky, concerning, questionable but an experience unique enough that it is deserving to tell the story!

Yeah!! I've never had to hole up in a gazebo outside an airport before! haha! It was an interesting experience! 😅 When and where is your next trip by the way? Is it Egypt next?
