That extra viewing room was actually an old apartment!y mother's friend used to own this place. The room where people would sit and talk was past the bathrooms. It's the room with the glass doors! I used to sit in there when I was little because I was very nervous to visit my deceased loved ones in the viewing room :( very sad to see it in this condition... Brings a tear to my eye

When I was very young (4-6 years old) my best friend's house was on one side of our house, and her grandfather's funeral home was on the other side. We used to sneak in to get a drink from the water fountain, and we would take flowers from the vases in the foyer to give to our Mums. There was a flowerbed at the side of the funeral home, but it was in constant shade and nothing grew there, so we used to play there all the time, digging in the dirt and making mud pies. Because of that early experience, I've never found funeral homes intimidating or creepy...I think they're very tranquil peaceful places.

There is a lot of history in that building. It's such a shame that the new owners have let it go like that. One of my close friends, his family owned it before. They have 2 other locations. The set of stairs that just has the two rooms used to be a sitting area with couches for when you went to make arrangements. There is so much I could tell you but I'd be here forever. The cellar where the embalming took place has not been in service for years, they did all that at another location. It's just sad that it looks like that now between the new owners not taking care of the property and the local kids getting in there and vandalizing it

The weird bottle next to the nails is some type of glue to keep the nails on. Also my friends are the ones who left those there lol.

My two son were hat makers.They Would makes hats for John mills &Michael Caine along with many other famous people.They were specialist in royal ascot morning top hats.😀

I've worked for a family owned FH & this mirrors many others across the nation. Family owned & operated FH's are becoming a thing of the past since many heirs don't want any part of a business which runs 24/7. They did a great job at vacating this one. If no one moves in & maintains it, the bldg. will fall apart. It will probably be demolished if located in Small Town USA with corporate owned mortuaries slowly taking over. The ornate stairway I believe leads up to the casket selection room since a lot of space is needed to display units for sale. The shelves downstairs were for casket storage. I didn't see any rollers which allows empty caskets to glide into the spaces. The concrete box looks like a child's burial vault which is heavy. I was offered a very nice apartment to live over a FH after the owner & his family moved to a nicer home, but declined. FH's are not creepy at all, but a place to work, live, & earn a decent living.

This funeral home was creepy. That room in the basement is probably were they stored the caskets. And that cement thing you saw down in the basement I think that is what they call a cement vault. They put the casket in that and either bury it or put it in a crypt. When my father died he was put in a cement vault. Also usually the people who own the funeral home live upstairs. A friend of mine lived upstairs above the funeral home. That has to be super creepy especially when there is a body downstairs. That hat you showed us looked like it had blood on it. This exploration was cool. Thanks for sharing. Just a suggestion when you go in these nasty funeral homes WEAR GLOVES.

If that's where I think it is, I would have loved to have acquired it, fix it up, and live there. The current owner has had it for quite some time now, only to sit there getting worse and worse.

That room that yoou said was the embalming room. That was it. I dont know the name for it but the large looking toilet usually the foot of the embalming table goes up cause all the blood and and stuff runs off in.`
