Fogarty Avenue

Күн бұрын

After a lot of hiccups Larundel Asylum in Bundoora, Melbourne began admitting its first psychiatric patients in 1953. The hospital ran well until it's eventual closure some time in the late 1990's (I would tell you the year it closed but I can't find it anywhere!!! but guessing 1998). Since it's closure Larundel has been obliterated by vandals and arsonists almost spelling it's death forever but now developers are restoring all the buildings to there original condition and turning them into apartments, YAY. It will defiantly be sad to see Larundel's buildings not abandoned anymore but it's good the developers are reusing and restoring them instead of demolishing them or leaving them to rot in to nothingness. At Larundel Mental Asylum they are apparently ghosts and spirits of the former patients still roaming around the complex. ohhh ARRRRRRR oHHHH, but yes Larundel is considered to be one of the most haunted places in Melbourne.
A more comprehensive explore video will be coming out in the future, this was just a quickie coz we were in the area so we thought we would have a spooky look.
ENJOY

I just visited this place today. I jumped the fence but unfortunately everything is bordered up so I can only roam the outside. Therefore I've decided to watch this.

I would never buy an apartment in this development. This place should be torn down. Many years ago I worked a few shifts in this place - via agency because no one wanted to work there - many years ago and it was a place of misery. Thankfully the residents are now placed in good purpose built houses and I have met them over the years and life has been so much improved. Regardless of what people think, the ghosts of the tortured souls still emanate from the brickwork. And for those who have never worked there, don't criticise my thoughts, you were never there.

+Callum Dawson ill assume you worked there during its late days. did they still torture patients even into the 80s-90s before referring them to the austin? glad to hear they are treated better now.

hi callum, these facilities stretched over kilometers from larundal to plenty hospital to mont park all the way up to what is now the Bundoora homestead, the first 3 have all been close demolished or turned into units, I wouldn't deny you saw some things that weren't nice especially at larundal considering it was a high care facility and that's not good or forgivable considering the disabled are the most vunrable in society, but what I can assure you is not all wards or facilities were like that, I have a family member who worked at Plenty hospital for 25 years from late 70;s through 80's and early 90's Plenty hospital was not high care it mainly dealt with the elderly and depressed and physical disabilities, the patients there were not tortured they were treated as best as possible and the people who worked there took pride in what they did and did there best, from nurses to cleaners to cooks to social workers to gardeners, alot of the patients had actual just been left and abandoned at these facilities by their family's and at the time without the hospitals wouldn't have survived.I'm sorry you witnessed something that wasn't good or decent and if any people were responsible for that I'm sure they'll pay in the next life, but there was also a lot of decent people who worked there that were goodnand cared for the residents

it was a horrible place my great aunt was put in there in 1957 until it closed down and got more screwed up being in there after how they treated her she was a child when she was put in there and id say it was torture what they did to alot of the residents i am glad they closed down it makes me sad to think what they did to people when you are unwell you need care which is the furthest from what they did

It's fully closed up now, the entrance way at 26 seconds is closed up, and where you went in at 46 is closed off. Last year I and crew were there to film an episode of our webshow, we went there a couple days ago to see it during the day, there's an alarm system and new fences, no sign of ways to get in, only if very thin can get through the gate.

One of the patients in this mental asylum back in 93 had a deep hatred of yoko. Ono and said she hated her because she drank blood to stay youthful. .. this was told to me by a friend who knew somebody that was a patient there at the time.. The person said this woman freaked and creeped her out.. ps ex patient comments are non existent. .. shame. . Their stories would be riveting.. also not all the patients here were incoherent or violent and quite a number had anxiety depression or body dysmorphia and eating disorders... not all were violent and psychotic

My friends and I used to travel from the south east and park at a McDonalds over the road and used to explore here often between 2000-2006 in my mid teens Most of the buildings were still alarmed but you could still dodge some and get into most buildings. Windows weren't really boarded up in many places, tables, lockers and other random things left behind. Our visits would often end with security turning up when we triggered an alarm climbing through the wrong window or something We used to go for ghost hunting, not to disturb anything -MJ
