The 'this is a great kirkbride' tag may be a reference to it being a Kirkbride plan asylum. I'd always thought it was one place but it was an architectural format for asylums developed by Dr. Thomas Kirkbride in the 1800's.

I totally forgot about the bye bye buggy! They had one of those when I was in childrens hospital in Chicago. We loved going for a ride we got to go out for a ride twice a day weather permitting. Depending on the nurse they would push us around the hospital if the weather was bad. (I spent almost 2 months in the hospital when I was little this was one of the only nice memories)

The area with the curved windows was probably referred to as the day room. The places with the half walls was where the beds were. There was probably one psychiatric aide who was stationed in the office in charge of the whole ward on the evening and night shift, more during the day
