Every time I see these abandon beautiful home I picture that once they were alive with family, people living their lives.. makes me sad when they tear them down. I see families sitting around the fireplace at Christmas time, or just enjoying the end of day.. memories still live there.

Our first home was built in 1920. It had an area off the dining room that was a good-sized storage area with a step up into it & shelving on 3 sides. We assumed it had been meant for a china cupboard/dining linen storage. It filled the space over the stairs to the basement & was original, as the hardwood flooring continued into it. Since the kitchen was quite small, it was handy for larger pots and dishes, cleaning supplies and, well....junk!

Wow! I haven’t even finished watching this video yet and I can say that this one is speaking to me. From the front door with that beautiful pattern of glass to the gorgeous fireplaces, the light fixtures; all make me feel like I’ve been there in that time. But I’m sure it’s because of my memories of my grandparents home and the lovely style of that time period. We sure do not see the craftsmanship that was put into these houses anymore. I do hope that there will be a rescue of some of this amazing architecture and fixtures before it is demolished 2

What a great treasure you found there, I fell in love. From the outside the house didn't look that big, the rooms themselves would be perfect. It's a shame that it's in such bad condition, a renovation would be a dream. There must have been an elderly person living there because of the handrails, who knows how long. The beautiful moments live on in the walls until it is demolished and takes the mystery with it. Sigh... goodbye beautiful lady 😍

Beautiful. Shame it's being demolished. That room with the mystery walk in could of been a formal or informal dinning room. That walk in could of been where they kept all the crockery, dinnerware, linen etc. Nice to see all the different eras it's been through are still evident. I'd love to have this place. You find the nicest old places. Thank you. Stay safe 🙏

Is dining, as in dining-room spelt differently in Australia, because I have noticed a lot of people in Australia seem to spell it with two 'n' s? In the U.K. we spell it with one 'n'. To me that makes it sound like a room for making a din, a noise in, rather than a room for eating in but it might be different with an Australian accent.

The emergence of styles from Federation to the Bungalow architecture, with the stained glass doors and windows, ornate fireplaces and high ceilings, characterise this charming old gem. The entry door leading into the long passageway was most likely the main entrance to inside the grandeur home. 🏡 If only this spacious bungalow was spared from destruction and would have been a restoration dream. Again a lovely explore of one of Adelaide's once lived in unique homes.

My grandparents had a house very similar. Going by their layout, I’m thinking the side door was the original front door leading into a hall which was normal. Hi Paul, I like this house for a lot of reasons. All the stained glass in the doors and in the window are simply beautiful. It has good size rooms. I think that room you called a sunroom could have been their dining room. They have that open arch where they could pass the dishes and food thru for meals. I think that small room was probably a pantry. They could have put all of their canned goods and other food items in there. That other room you thought was the dining room is not so near to the kitchen so that’s why I don’t think it’s a dining area. There are beautiful fireplaces and mantles also. You ask if this place can be saved I say no and that is because the house has termites. You can’t see how extensive the damage is also there are cracks. One thing I don’t like about this house is the front room that is a bedroom and the reason is you can hear all the traffic outside. I think the last person or persons that lived here were elderly. There are a lot of grab bars in the hall and in the bathrooms especially in the bathtub and pretty much all over the house. They probably died and the house fell into disrepair. I think if they could save it and that only a maybe they should save this house. But the fence is up so it means their minds are made up to destroy it. It’s a dirty shame and a waste. This was another great video Paul. You always go into the homes with such love and care. I hope you have a great week and stay safe and well.❤

I love this cottage so much. I am assuming, and correct me if I am wrong, that the steel gingerbread is Victorian? I do love details like that. I think that the closet in the dining room is a pantry/china storage. A lot of old homes had that kind of closet off the dining room. One thing I meant to ask is why the doorknobs on Federations were put so high? Was it just a style or did it have a function I am not aware of? This, and I have said it before, but truly this one is a gem. So happy to be able to see it through your lens. Waving from Maine.
@urbexindigo51642 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan :-) Glad you enjoyed! Yep the gingerbread pattern is def Victorian era and the door handle height is always a curious topic but it seems to align with when the doors also had the upper glass panel added at head height. More a style than functionality it seems. Cheers for watching :-)
@susanurbanczyk90842 жыл бұрын
@@urbexindigo5164 Thank you for the answer Paul. I actually like the height of the door knobs. I think it is cute. I do imagine little children standing on tip toe to open the doors. Perhaps that was a clever way of keeping them out of mum's living room.
@vb1336 Жыл бұрын
I think the room with the mystery door was a dining room and may have had a round table in the middle as there was a cross mark on the carpet which would be from the legs of a round table. The back room with the bricks is an unusual add on being quite small. Is a lovely house but the white ants could be through the whole home.
@RepublicTX2 жыл бұрын
I hope some bits and pieces will be salvaged. Thinking of losing those mantels and light fixtures alone gives me palpitations! I'm pretty sure that odd closet area off the dining room is what's called a butler's pantry, but those interior shelves sure don't look original to the house. It's where you keep your table linens, large serving pieces, candle sticks and everything else that only gets hauled out on special occasions. I know young folks don't care much about such things, but back in the day, you made a statement having an everyday set of dishes and at least one other set of fine, fancy china, crystal, and silver for special occasions. If you lived in a large enough home to actually warrant having a butler, he would have keys to that room and for a silver safe and locks for other expensive items that went in the pantry.
