Making updates to 2011, updating 2026 soon, saving 2027, purchasing Bay Colony to expand their territories, it is great to see the railroad having some nice expansions! Now if he could just use some of that money to fix 1501... LOL

A NH FL9 was the very first loco I got with my HO model railroad layout when I was 4. It was an Athearn rubber band drive and I got very good at replacing them all the time. Glad to see a real one saved.

Abandoned New Haven FL-9 is getting preserved by Mass Coastal Railroad. It was won for a never operating railroad. New Haven #2027 is gonna get another chance at life once moved to MCRR. Thanks MCRR for preserving an FL-9. Thanks for presenting this video. Mass Coastal Railroad will take good care of this beauty.

I'm amazed at how contemporary looking the NH McGinnis livery still is after nearly 70 years. Herbert Matter definitely came up with a winner when he designed this scheme for the "Jets" in 1955. And, thank God, Mrs. McGinnis had a preference for red and not yellow! 😂

It's great news that this currently derelict NH unit is going to be saved. But personally I wish it would get a refresh of it's original New Haven livery. However, I am not complaining. Any way an historic diesel locomotive can be restored and put back into service is a good thing.

So, obviously, as our country grew through the industrial era and OTR trucking put a stinging dent in RR transportation, we had to suffer the growing pains of RR routes dying off. I live 1/2 a mile from an Old Colony line that connected Boston to Brockton and points South / Southwest. Not sure -- have to still dig deep for it's history. I was there as a boy when the last train went through. Now it's a bike path. It's great to see footholds being maintained and actually some areas thriving. Sure, nobody wants a new railroad but God bless the owners and lines that can hold what they've got. Cheers..!!

I remember seeing these beauties in a jumbled Metro North/Conrail Color Scheme in Croton Falls on the Harlem line before they electrified it up to Brewster North aka Southeast station. There is something mystical about an FL9 !!

Wait till you see the interior, the wiring is nearly destroyed and tons of parts are missing, plus the horn, ik this cause I had a friend that saw it not long ago, I'm surprised but still happy it's being restored, thought it was to be scrapped.

just a bit of trivia, the FL9 series were capable of running off third rail power as well as onboard diesel power. Don't know if the old girl still has the third rail gear, but if she does, she could maybe run all the way into south and/or north stations on the MBTA network!

All are now in good hands. 2011 (Mass Coastal) and 2024 (Webb Rail at Lenox, MA) are operational and were repainted in NH colors, 2014/2016 are running in Grapevine, Texas, 2026 (MC) is operational pending a NH cosmetic restoration, and 2027 (MC) is awaiting eventual operational restoration and painting into Mass Coastal colors.

While working at MMRR, we inherited these ‘bears’ and I’ve probably worked on all 60. We cursed them - then developed an affection for them. Until some yahoo took 12 of them and gutted them for us and LIRR to make them into “starships” the nickname we gave them

Sadly its got the fault all American diesel locomotives have. A badly worn crankshaft that is so out of whack that it strikes the engine casing so it sounds like a bell
