Rhode Island's population of 19th century mills is dwindling. Sure, a few have been redeveloped into shops, hotels and the like, but those that remain are all but lost to mother nature. Take one last look inside the Hope Mill in Scituate, Rhode Island before the demolition is complete later this year. It would be great if some kind of grant/funding could not be secured with the thought that electricity produced from hydro would power the apartments in the original part of the complex.

The current owner had permits to convert the buildings into apartments, but didn't get it started fast enough and they've expired/voided. The buildings have been rapidly falling apart since they were purchased and I can imagine it's an uphill struggle. As of late July, the last I heard is that the owner is nearly out of money to continue demolition, let alone any kind of effort to redevelop.

@@marcdesrosiers4312 Thank you! It is sad though. Pontiac Mills in Warwick is a nicely restored example. The modern looking hotel at the front ruins it a bit, but they did a nice job of maintaining some character with the rest (business/office suites and condos). Most of the footage at the beginning of the video during the history was b-roll shot around Pontiac Mills.

Curious if you had permission to go into the mill. Great shots.
