Wow - this gave me chills!! I was perusing random videos on KZbin. I saw yours and was intrigued. I started watching and heard you describe what sounded like an area I’m familiar with. Then I recognized where the track crossing was and it felt very familiar. Then I saw buildings that I knew I’d been in long ago, when my maternal grandparents rented an apartment from their physician, Dr. Hicks. THEN I saw another comment about Dr. Hicks renting out his property. I’m pretty dumbfounded that I happened upon this randomly. I always looked at Waverly Hills and the first sign of the railroad tracks with abject fear if we were going for another reason and not to visit the grandparents renting from him. It meant we were getting close to Dr. Hicks’ office. He delivered both my brother and me, and was my family’s doctor until I was 6 or 7. (I was born in 1951 in case he had a father or sons who became doctors.) But he was a scary fellow, not fond of children, and always ready with an injection of the miracle drug (unless overused), penicillin. Thank you for the video (I think😊)

Hi Gayle, I'm glad you liked the video! Thanks for the insight on what it was like there and about Dr. Hicks. I really wish this place could be saved. It's really a beautiful old property, but unfortunately it may already be too far gone. Let's hope someone with deep enough pockets buys it and gives it a new life.

Found a little info on the property… It’s owned by a trust under John & Anna Hicks that also appears to own several properties in the West End. The parcel around the house is about 1.5 acres, but the larger grounds have been subdivided. The house appears to date from the early 1930s based off of deeds for the property (it looks about that age, too), but I couldn’t find any exact references to the house. It may have belonged originally to Mary & Marvin Cunningham, but again, unsure. The area sure would have looked different back in the 1930s, though.

Me to, We lived out there for years, It's right next to Waverly while My kids and I snuck in there in 2004, we went up the chute as we got to the top closer to the door, It got extremly cold while we felt this pressure of force push us back and wouldn't allow us to go any further. I was only 28 at the time and the children were young. It scared us to death. We ran out of there as fast as we could. I solely believe in spirts while this one didn't want us there. I thought the house has something to do with Waverly TB Hospital. Thanks for the adventure..

Hi folks, I started to reply to someone on a topic further down the list. Here is an update for 8 May 2019. ********************************* The crane was removed in 2018 and the property is getting cleaned up. In 2019, there is an effort to sell the full 43+ acres of land. The round building at the start of the film is called a silo. Normally, that is where corn would be stored, dried, used, sold, or even removed to make whisky in a still. The corn or grain could also be fed to the cattle that someone else mentioned earlier on this list. As much of the 43+ acres of land is on and along the hillside, this means that very few folks would want to purchase it. Then the area is bombarded with electronic smoke from the cell phone towers and the high power electrical lines. You might as well move into a microwave oven when the 4G and 5G cell signals begin penetrating the blood-brain barrier of anyone attempting to live on that property. Speaking of ghosts, you will become one shortly after being exposed to the swamp of electronic smog emanating from those many neighborhood cell and electric towers/poles. Thanks for the various discussions by folks mentioning the history. Only one person on the list mentioned the official tracts of land. You can research these tracts on the Property Valuation Administration webpages: jeffersonpva.ky.gov/ The address is: 9101 Dixie Highway. Here is the PVA information: jeffersonpva.ky.gov/property-search/property-details/239512/?StrtNum=9101&Single=1 Mailing Address 1929 MAJESTIC MEADOWS DR, CLARKSVILLE, IN 47129-9076 Owner JOHN H HICKS JR REVOCABLE TRUST & AN Parcel ID 104800010000 Land Value $450,500 Improvements Value $20,000 Assessed Value $470,500 Approximate Acreage 43.3469 Property Class 101 AGRICULTURAL W/DWELLING Deed Book/Page 7808 0705 District Number 500009 Old District 24 Fire District Pleasure Ridge Park School District Jefferson County Neighborhood 508142 / TIMOTHY HILLS Satellite City Jefferson County Sheriff's Tax Info View Tax Information County Clerk Delinquent Taxes ****************************** The place is a dump. They will never get that assessed value. The land owners at the top of the hill should purchase and extend their lots down to the railroad tracks allowing for a common road easement. That all creates liability for each of them they likely want to avoid as there would be persistent homeless folks and dumping. Someone could see if there is a tax lien option to get this property. bye B

Thank you 💙 back during WWII this home was used for a stopping point for soldiers bound for home, a train depot, it was once occupied by a British man and his three disabled children until one passed away not sure what year that was though I think as recent as the year 2000 and before Dr. Hicks lived there it use to be a farm that produced cattle and hay and in the 1920s and 30s it was also used as a motel even offering laundry service to the tired Travelers who wanted to get away from the north to the South. There should be a road behind the house and up a hill that takes you to another abandoned home this one much newer built by the son of Dr Hicks there used to be several abandoned cars there and an RV I see the heavy equipment is still there though this is so so sad to me :'( my grandfather was in the old TB Hospital when I was just about 5 or 6 years old we was there for 3 years I have a lot of photos 💙 also I don't know if you know about this or not but Dr Hicks used to print out I believe it was two or three rooms there as Apartments. Any who thanx again for this video :)

Apparently for 350k it can all be yours. The listing says the house was built in the 1800s. From the look of the place, I thought maybe it was further south and had gotten flooded, but nope. I'm I feel like I remember seeing the entrance with its own tiny railroad crossing (not so much the house) in the early 90s when I lived in the area and thought that would kinda suck. Having lived that close to a railroad a couple of times (why does this keep happening?? LOL) I can say for sure that the noise there would've been intense every time a train rolled through, even if they didn't blow the horn at the uncontrolled crossing.

Dude- you gotta check out the buildings along Main Street in downtown Louisville. Did you realize that the original ground floor level is now buried below street level? ....the original street level has been buried. I suspect the mud flood theory
@BrennanCallan5 жыл бұрын
The access points in the sidewalks to the underground sections are where the coal bins used to be filled to heat boilers in buildings as well as furnaces. It is not that there was an earlier ground level, but access for the earlier utilities that would function in the basements. Homes built throughout Louisville still had coal-bin access doors into the 1930s. These doors were where coal delivery services could open the door and shovel coal into your house. The problem was that any crook could easily open the door, get inside of your house, and then take whatever they wanted. Yes, they would be a big mess in doing so. After WWII, many of the houses were converted to having heating units using natural gas and reducing the soot, smog, and extensive effort of shoveling coal into your own oven throughout the day and night to just keep your house warm. My grandparents purchased a house around 1937 in St. Matthews and what I described was from what they told me. It was a great relief when they converted to natural gas because they no longer had to stay awake just to put more dirty coal into the furnace. My grandmother had the same house that she and my grandfather purchased until about 1988 or so. My grandfather had already passed away before my grandmother sold the house. These conversions were part of the national trend to put returning soldiers/Veterans into new jobs while the countless companies that had converted to war-time manufacturing of goods for the military had to determine new and viable products to make America operate more efficiently. Eventually, some home-owners removed the coal bin doors or found ways of mounting brackets on the inside to ensure no one broke into the house through the doors. The many shotgun houses in Louisville did not have coal bins because most of those houses lacked any basements. Therefore, as you research the architecture throughout Louisville, it is easy to get an idea of the ages of homes based upon whether they had coal bin doors or not. Hopefully, this discussion explains why you see vents along the sidewalks even in 2019. Another reason that there are vents today is that when the utility rooms were converted to modern HVAC units, the air intake is done from the grating sections along the sidewalks. Then another issue is that major electrical transformers were placed underground so that the ground and upper floors could be rented. What is buried throughout Louisville are not only our sewers, but also the former streetcar and interurban railway tracks. We had over 148-miles of street car tracks and about 97-miles of interurban trains. I spent over five years researching that vast topic and it motivated me to earn a BS degree in Environmental Analysis in Geography. There is a wonderful book by Elmer G. Sulzer called "Ghost Railroads of Kentucky." I wish he had more information than what is enumerated on Louisville's streetcars and interurbans, but what he has documented is rather valuable anyway. Best wishes everyone! What I appreciated in each of the discussion points of folks was the respectful tone. Brennan
