Oh I was really tempted to explore this place when I was living in York earlier this year. You're absolutely right about the cameras being bloody everywhere! Glad I got to see a little part of this beautiful building through your lens. Thanks!great video

The tunnel went from the main office to the dining block/training center and went under the road and you could access the back of the library on your way back from lunch. Happy days when people always took a break for lunch, socialised and cared about each other. It was open until the early 2000’s to my memory.

I worked at rowntree for 30 year's, many happy memories, now just turned to housing, all them jobs gone , a great shame .

OK, so what you have over the road from the library is... the joseph rowntree theatre, as you mentioned, but the larger building which your camera actually caught, is now the Nuffield health centre. This use to be the dining rooms and social space for the workers and the tunnel takes you ( once upon a time, the workers) under the road to it. The tunnel pre dated the library so that's why there's access from there. Just look at the width of the staircase you did go down, those were meant for a lot of foot traffic! Shame you couldn't wade through, would have been interesting to see how far it still goes. Great explore though and as far as UEs go, you lead the way in responsible practice and keeping to your morals about protecting and not damaging the places you visit.
