Isn't some of this abandoned right -of-way going to be used by the South Shore Line on it's new route to Dyer and Munster Indiana? I believe it was purchased by the NICTD. It will start at Hammond IN and end in Dyer IN. I believe abandonment started in 1985 through Downtown Hammond IN and continued in sections.

Looking back at this video around the 4:23 mark. E&W sure has done a lot of work cleaning up these tracks. Last time I went by they had their buffer car parked right up at the derail.

I feel like they have. I drove there last week and saw that same buffer car all the way at the end of the line. MFS finally got another load delivered after a looong time and I'm not sure if they have outbounded the cars yet or not.

@@gmftrainvideos Does this mean the missing frog at 8:10 has been replaced and the vegetation removed from the tracks?
@gmftrainvideos5 жыл бұрын
@@ethanlamoureux5306Yes. I haven't seen the cut section replaced, but I would assume it is restored due to the car at the end of the line. All vegetation is gone.

@@gmftrainvideos Always good to see a disused track restored. All my life (45 years) I have seen railroads disappearing, and so few restored. I just wish there were more put back to use, and way fewer trucks on the roads!

I'd love to see that too. At least we get some right.

So how much of Monon's trackage was abandoned?
@albertcarello6192 жыл бұрын
CrowChiTransport: This abandoned right -of-way from Hammond to Munster-Dyer Indiana was already purchased by NICTD for the new South Shore Line extension which should be up and running by 2025.

@@albertcarello619 Dang, I actually saw construction on it and I thought it was a trail. I'm glad to see the former Monon line my dad lived near become running again.
@albertcarello6192 жыл бұрын
@@WindyCityExpeditionist It won't be a trail any more. 3 years construction on the new South Shore Line Extension. You'll be seeing plenty of construction activity in the coming days. A new branch line down to Dyer and Munster Indiana is long overdue to serve these and nearby communities in this area.
