What a wonderful video and story; I constantly come back to watch it. There is something timely and inspiring about seeing something cast off and abandoned come to life again. About 8 years ago I went to see some abandoned sections of former PRR and CCCSt.L (Big 4) tracks, wooden trestles, and a bridge over the Wabash River into Illinois. Ironically, there was a large power plant there too just south of Mt. Carmel. Former PRR tracks were here and there at Skelton, down thru Cynthiana and beyond. The feelings I had when observing all this history was, in a small way, like experiencing your video story; only yours is much more moving and inspiring to behold. Thank you for conceiving something which resonates so deeply for the many who are able to discover it.

Concrete ties. Fresh ballast. Continuous welded rail. This is the future of America's rail, and this is just the beginning. A line brought back from the dead. The same right of way that mighty steam engines once pounded over will now be rumbled down by diesels. A new age is beginning, and we're on the front lines of it. Let's do this, and restore our rail network to its former glory!

Very glad to see Rights Of Way (ROW) being rejuvenated, and relaid for service. Especially former P Co. (PRR) ROW. Don't understand the choice of concrete ties though. While concrete ties make for a smoother ROW, they do not take the heavy loading, and abuse that freight trains often produce, hence the reason they are commonly used for passenger lines.

Lesa Shiminski To make room for the new bridge and give more room for buses and semis where the county roads meet the state highway so they can clear the tracks while stopping at the highway. Old RR was close to the highway so that is why it zig zags.

Did they in places. Move the grade? In one scene (at a road crossing) it looks like they move the grade over.

Yes, they had to move the track away from the highway for safety reasons. This leaves enough room for a school bus or semi to stop and not be on the tracks.

Another pesky Question is if Duke does own it is there any chance it will work out a possibility to serve other customers right next to the rails ? Your video and the subject matter is nice to see ,Thank you ?

Tyler Sebring exactly where the PRR was but at the road crossings near the highway they had to move the line back so a bus or semi could stop for the highway but not foul the tracks. That’s why you see it curve away from then back onto the original right of way.

Indiana dropped any pretense to protect the environment (unless where doing so would create some sort of economic benefit or opportunity) and exempted railroads from nearly all regulations. Although Indiana hasn't really grown much in the past years it does have a lot of rail ROW sitting around either abandoned or unused. Some businesses in the state sat down and did the math: rail spur vs. truck cost of overhead on inventory. Rail, even when being upgraded, usually out price points trucks. Makes economic sense to add rail if access to the Big Iron or a large regional connector is available. This trend should continue, especially in rural parts of the state, in the next decade. The state has been using federal money to improve commuter rail or other related projects to invest in some of these small scale spurs and the politics of the program are heating up. The long considered commuter-freight upgrade in Lake County was passed over for state fund sharing for some reason. The plan would turn the old PRR line running southeast-northwest in the county to Chicago into a serious commuter rail line. The line would also be fortified to handle the highest tonnage of freight and create a top tier rail link. Northern Indiana, hard to believe, has no commuter rail link into Chicago, only the famous interurban, the South Shore Railroad, serves the area. However, it runs due east to west along the northern part of the county from South Bend. The PRR upgrade would link with the South Shore line into the city.

Same thing happens here with passing up opportunities to reopen rail line's for some reason they still think that nobody will be using them in 10 yrs. A decision made by the British in about 1965. Is there a grain silo near the line and did they get their siding back.
