Personally, I think that this property should somehow be preserved as a piece of history, for it encompasses so many slivers of history - from its architectural beauty to the many nods to other visually and otherwise pleasing pieces of the past. From the Art Deco touches to the period colors in the restrooms (mint green, pastel pink, etc.); not to mention the walk-in closets (cedar, climate-controlled (for furs) and shoes (slanted shelves)....). If I could, I'd purchase the whole area and keep it so that those who come after us can see what once was....and perhaps, could be again.

I'm not surprised it was used as a filming location! It was a very classy, elegant home with many period details still in tact. Minimal vandalism, not too much decay. I hope someone buys it and fixes it up to bring it back to its former glory before it's too far gone instead of demolishing it. I'd love to see some of the movies, tv shows or commercials this house was used in when it was still lived in and kept up.

My absolute favorite! For the 40’s, this home is awesome. So much storage, large open rooms, large everything. Loved it all. Its a crying 😢 shame they’re going to knock it down. The gardens were beautiful even in winter. It does look familiar. I would love to know what films, commercials it was used in. I want this home.

The two large bedrooms were for the master and the lady of the home common even in the 1940's. 14:25 cedar closets were for mink stoles to keep them fresh from vermin. 14:28 the diagonal boards with the ridged trim were for holding shoes, this room was designed for the lady of the home.

Coming from America, it is amazing how well this house is preserved. Literally within two weeks of pretty much any home going vacant in America, it is completely gutted of all valuables, including the copper piping from the walls. The only thing that keeps American homes in shape is getting them rented right away. Otherwise, they are just completely destroyed. Sad.

Hopefully someone will be allowed to go in and salvage some of the nice vintage features (like that stair railing) and sell it to homeowners doing a retro renovation. It seems all of the nice original houses are abandoned, decaying and/or slated for demolition. The ones for sale have all been remodeled and updated, losing much of their original charm.

I have always had an interest in residential real estate, having remodeled a number of houses, and find your videos very interesting and informative. Are you an agent that has access to these homes. Couple of questions. In your climate is the heat kept on some of these houses to avoid structural damage. Another surprise that the homes weren’t broken into and striped of some of the furnishings. Thanks again for your videos.
@reallyrandomrides12962 жыл бұрын
I also wondered if he's a real estate agent or knows one, in order to get access to some of these houses that do not seem fully trashed and were probably locked and secure.

Even the steel handwoven staircase has to be worth about $500,000, with an array of architectural features allowing the home the appearance of a new custom built manor. 6:37 with the swing door would be known as a spacious butler's pantry. This home is still a multi-million dollar estate in pristine condition. Early design of the 1960's tri level concept, this home was ahead of its time!

The glass bathroom walls are called "Carrera glass," and was a structural glass product designed primarily for use on storefronts and building exteriors. It was also used in bathrooms and kitchens. It was very popular during the 30s, 40s and early 50s and was available in scores of fashionable colors.
