Abandoned Oakes Council School Huddersfield

Between being a school and a care home, it was subdivided in ‘flats’ (really rooms), rented out, with the individual rooms having their own bathroom and sink. I know all this because I went to it when it was a Junior School (late sixties) and my brother rented one of these rooms in the nineties. So the internal layout has been mucked about a few times. It was still a school in the mid seventies.

In 1977 a large part of it was a youth club, Oakes youth club. I went once or twice.

It was a weighing scale we used it for the residents used to work here

After it was an old folks home, there were quite a lot of foreign gents living there
