Hi I showed this to my brother as he worked there. The bridge as been there since the 1920/30s . They didn't push the carriages over the bridge with a locomotive they used tractors and a long chain.

Between the bridge and the main train line was the Clyde pole yard ,Where the power poles for SRA were kept

It amazes me that we had such manufacturing ability and we let it go. Making our own rolling stock instead of importing trains that need 5 years of "improvements" before they can join the network and actually carry passengers. The location in the middle of such a growth area would have provided many jobs for local people.

Well that was easier to find on a map than I expected. Not a sydney local, but once I found paramatta road, basically the first stream I saw on it was the right one. Switched over to aerial photo view, and you can even see the track remains :)

It was certainly more than 30 years ago. I used to ride past it 26 years ago every day and it looked exactly like it does now

Exactly this bridge looks less trafficable than the Condong Creek bridge at the end of the Murwillumbah line does and Comeng Granville only closed in April 1990.

I worked there the bridge was bad in the 70s thay would push carriages with c chamber land tractor the heaviest was century 628 636 locos for hammer sly iron i used to stand on the bridge and throw electrodes at eels when i was a kid i swam in duck creek you can walk from Clyde station across duck creek on the southern side to the train depot watch for red belly blacks

When you realize that Clyde Engineering were where Maintrain and EDI Downer are now, plus there was Alco Engineering ( that's where ComEng is now ) the area was very active in the transportation history of NSW

Fascinating to think how much of Sydney's rolling stock would've crossed over that tiny little bridge if what you say is true. And while I've been past it on Parra Road plenty of times, had no idea it was there. Actually kindof sad to see it so close to all the other nearby rail infra, yet so neglected. That said, I doubt you could restore or really do anything with it. If you restored it, there'd be virtually nothing left of the original bridge. And it's also in such an industrial area, that there'd really be nobody around to ever enjoy it.

So the company built the rolling stock but couldn't use their train to deliver it to the customer and the customer couldn't use their train to collect it from the factory because the owner of the bridge wouldn't let trains across the bridge. Seems like the fingerprints of a number of unions were all over that.

Deserves a visit with a machete or similar, shame to let our past rot rather than making it a walking or riding trail... Long live the V-Set, could get a world record if they joined them up and sent them to the South Coast, Blue Mountains or Newcastle. Honestly three great railway journeys, up with the best in the world!
