I remember this crossing well back in the late 80s and 90s, my grandad used to keep his day boat (that's a small wooden sailing boat) in the harbour and we would tow it over the crossing at the beginning and end of the season. It didn't have light shades on it then either, although I seem to remember it did have the white borders on it which was the standard until the red and white ones came in. Not even sure if it even had a yodalarm or a bell, I think it was pretty old even back then. I always looked to see if would go off whenever I passed but I don't think I ever got to see it operating. Shame to see it's gone.

Very interesting - I looked at this quite a few time on Google Maps but I never really saw the full extent of it until watching this video! The lights look kinda weird without any borders or shades! I genuinely thought the barriers were long GWE barriers like the ones at Bedhampton until I read the signs on them and their name in the description, and it kinda looks to me that there are stands at the end of the barriers which would've folded out when they lowered (?) Very old equipment like this does make me quite curious indeed, especially with the layout on the side of the harbour kinda reminding me of the set-up at nearby Wool Level Crossing! Brilliant tour, and I doubt this'll be seeing any closures or trains any time soon! 😂😂😂👍😁

These signals originally had white painted borders, but they faded away entirely over the years. As for the visors, it would appear they were never fitted, which seems unusual. These types of wig wags could normally be seen with two different types of visor. The level crossing is thought to date from the mid-1980s.
@UKLevelCrossingsChannel4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think the outlines can just be seen around the lights. I did wonder about the visors. Interesting, thanks 👍
@lodgewhite5 жыл бұрын
This time last year that crossing was in much better condition. It had all its borders on and sun shades in place. That is definitely a human force that has removed all that and the signs have also been taken down and the extra road barriers added.

Really? When I've checked Google Maps, the crossing has looked the same for many years.
