Replace the cowboy hat with a flat cap and swap the accent for Yorkshire England and u have my neighbour…he’s 82, mad as a loon and one of the nicest blokes you could ever meet. I’ve shared more than a couple of bottles single malt in the garden with him over the last few years and he’s one of those people that seem somehow indestructible. Best neighbour I ever had.

I love the vibe of this video, it starts out all sensible talking about contingencies for bears and earthquakes, cooking in one location and sleeping in another, putting down boards to cover tripping hazards etc. Then the booze comes out and it becomes a proper boys night. Shenanigans ensued, suddenly there's a big fire in the middle of the room and they move the sleeping bags and food there instead, because fires are awesome! Sure it wasn't as stealthy but it looked like a lot of fun was had.

The thing is, if I am not mistaken, is that a black bear will stalk you more so than a grizzly. The earthquake thing made me think that if the power station was abandoned and yet was built along the coast, I would think that it had already "survived" some small tremors. If there were no obvious cracking in the concrete that would indicate structural compromise, then it should be good to go.

@@campingwithsteve The rivers never freeze around here but, sadly, there's not enough water to sail in them. Last time I stealth camped, I walked and even pushed my bike up the wash to this really cool stealth place. You can hear people all around but the only way to get there is by walking a ways up the wash. I camped there twice and I'm thinking of going again now that it's cooling off. Maybe I'll try to take a video and post it. I only have my phone camera but whatever.
