It was criminal what the government and greencore were allowed to do to such a great industry and employer , the footage brings back great memories of hauling into the 4 sugar factorys we had at one time☺️

Many times I brought the beet trains in and out of the factory for discharge and shunted the yard as well. It would take an hour and 20 mins to wash out 28 wagons. It's shocking that the factory was demolished. It was scandalous.

Two things come to mind when seeing this video. 1. The sun shining along the track, ideal for solar panels miles of it could power the whole of Mallow. 2. Sugar beat could again be big a crop by turning it into ethenol for the E10 Petrol instead of importing it.

Reopening of the Railway line should happen to prevent 1) Traffic Jams, 2) Car Accidents/Road Deaths & 3) Pollution.

@@martinwalsh3228 I can promise 1000% that no passenger train will be in operation for the Ryder Cup or after that. The line probably won't be open for freight either. Also the line to the Mallow Sugar factory goes to a field miles and miles from Adare.

This is just a siding to a former factory (since demolished). The running line visible beside the wagons is in use, being the line to Tralee.

We need to bring back sugar beet processing to Ireland, as well as flour milling. Outsourcing those processes to Britain might, repeat MIGHT, have made sense when the UK was an EU member state, but definitely does not now, after it has committed Brixit. And as 'Linde Forklift points out, we could be producing our own liquid biofuels in the sugar factories. We also need to stop subjecting our rail system to 'Death by a thousand cuts'....
