I take another dip onto the track bed of the disused Didcot, Newbury And Southampton Railway, this time to find the platforms at Churn. HIdden in the depths of the Berkshire Downs, Churn was surely once one of the most desolate stations in the country.
Closed in 1963, the platforms fell into disrepair but are possibly the last surviving parts of this railway that provided so valuable during the second world war for troop and equipment movements, and beyond to connect the industrial Midlands with the docks at Southampton.
This video forms the second part in a series of videos dedicated to the Didcot to Newbury Branch.
