I was born and raised in Springvale (Kingsworthy). I remember when this was a functioning railway. When it was not longer in use they used to store railway carriages on it. Great for bored kids! It also had a fully functioning signal box that was not locked so you could go pull a few levers. Great times. ;-)

Fantastic does not do it justice the effort that went into the merging of the maps and the image of ghost train is amazing. Well done!

The greatest video on the whole of KZbin! Thank you, this should get a billion views. My granddaughter saw her 1st Steam Train at Newbury a few weeks back, she's almost 2yrs old and the experience has stayed with her and she now requests steam train videos from her Granddad. I swear this video should win a prize. I was an Engineer on the Newbury by-pass and tore up the remains of the old tracks that somehow missed recycling at the closure of the line, what you've done here is made my own thoughts and imaginings as I travelled the line doing the initial survey for the work. There was an intricate Brick built bridge at I think 13:22 in your video, somewhere there are pics of it, Lord Carnarvon is said to have paid for it to be 'special' and it really was! All houndstooth bricks in patterned colours... it was an extraordinary looking thing. When next I came back to build that road it was gone, no trace. Whoever built that was a master bricklayer the like of which we will never see again.

Amazing has made me cry! My late Dad and his mate collected the last sleepers whilst my mates grandad fired the last passenger locomotive! It is scandalous really that the line was never really invested in considering the burden placed on the A34.Most of the line where I live is now tarmaced and a cycle route,I can remember the days you had to tread careful and cows grazed between track and I'm only 50!

Winchester Chesil must have been a very interesting station to visit, in its quarry like setting reminds me of Ventnor Town. Thank you.

During the early part of WW2 the line was doubled to assist arms and freight getting to Southampton directly. Many were surprised it was closed resulting in freight taking long diversions from the north to the ports.

Travelled this line from Fareham or Gosport via Eastleigh so many times in the late fifties. Not so many times going back as the train didn't run late Sunday so then bus to Basingstoke and on to Eastleigh by train. Took half the night in those days. Caught the paper train at Eastleigh to Portsmouth then ferry to Gosport or early morning back to Fareham. Preferred to Hitch. Always got a lift in uniform.

At 13:02 is where my crew tore up the very last tracks on that line, Woodhay. The main line had gone just after closure but the siding rails were there until we put the road through. My crew also tore down the 1960s style chalet house that was built after the closure of the railway line and directly under the track line on Enborne Row, on the Station side of the road, the bridge had long gone and the land was flattened creating the space for the Chalet style house. I also set-out the House that was built for the owner as a replacement nearby... thankfully NOT in that dreadful 1960s chalet style, which was frankly... an abomination.😀The replacement was just as ugly though, just not a 60s style chalet monstrocity.
