That park, back in the 80s, used to be the most beautiful serene place with very few cars or people. I wish I had appreciated it more, like I do now!

High strength mortar is available nowadays Cliff. I'll bring an extra trowel and tuck pointer and meet ya there. -Ha. There are many mill sites that have no record at all, just memories. Just down stream there was Sackeville mill that was still being used in the 70's. The dam and wheel I believe were washed out in a flood in '71. The mill was still being used for fabric and inner linings of coats for years afterwards. What remained was demolished in the mid to late 80's. An anthrax scare I heard. The only thing remaining now is the bridge over Ridley "Crick" that connected the bldgs. on both banks.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL STONE HOUSE. I WOULD LOVE TO LIVE IN SOMETHING LIKE THAT. THAT OLD ENAMEL BUCKET PUT SOME DIRT IN IT AND PLANT SOME FLOWERS IN IT, VERY ATTRACTIVE AND UNIQUE. NICE COUNTRY DRIVE.

There are also some ruins in the Tyler Arboretum next door to Ridley Creek Park. (Or at least there used to be when I grew up there in the 70s)

Yes Cliff if you kept going that trail is a 5 mile loop and quite a few abandoned stone houses right along the trail. Its been crowded all year but glad you paid a visit. That road you parked on is Chapel Hill road and I'm always looking for a spot and was happy you found one. There is also a functional mansion(Hunting Hill Mansion ) in Ridley State Park I think you would enjoy if you make a next visit.Take care.

I grew up near here and lived very close after college and hiked there a lot. In fact, my first hike was in this park and I still hike over 20 years later. I still go back when I am down in Delco visiting family. Most of the ruins are along the paved trail but there are several on the unpaved trails. It was my dream to be able to rent one of the houses in the park but you have to get on a very long waiting list. I looked at the preservation paper on this park from UPenn; it's a damn shame more of these structures weren't preserved but history and culture don't seem to be our priority.

My childhood!! I used to live near there and we went often. Loved seeing the ruins. You should check out the Ridley Mansion. Also part of Ridley Creek State Park.

that 1st location was awesome! and loved the stone dam. I had a friend that lived in a stone house and I learned something when it caught on fire. It turns into an oven, literally. There was absolutely nothing left inside the house, it all turned to ashes. Metal, wood, didn't matter, all cooked down to ashes.

Ridley Creek State Park is in Media, PA which is in Delaware County. Media is the county seat and has the county courthouse in it. You are also 45 minutes away from Philadelphia. This area is not a suburb of Philly. It is too far away for that. The nearest city is a small city of Chester which has been around since before we were a country. It is where Penn's real landing is, where the first Quaker meeting House is and where the original circular courthouse from COlonial days still exists.

This is the county that literally borders the city of Philadelphia. I'm pretty sure I could leave Ridley Creek State Park and be in Philadelphia in no more than 20 minutes.

I just can't watch videos of abandoned buildigs/houses. The waste is too much to bear. I speak as the restorer of an 1804 farmhouse in Montgomery County, PA. But waste is the American way of life.

BEAUTIFUL STONE HOUSE, MAN I COULD LIVE IN THAT WITH NO PROBLEM. I DON'T KNOW WHY KIDS HAVE TO SPRAY PAINT EVERYTHING. IF I WOULD HAVE A HOUSE LIKE THAT EVERYONE WOULD THINK I WAS RICH. MY THAT TOOK ALOT OF STONES TO BUILD THA T HOUSE, JUST AMAZINHS.

Any place that's close enough for inner city descendants of freed slaves to get to will be spray painted. They contribute nothing of value to society.

So what happened here? Was the wood removed so the house couldn't be used? It doesn't' look like a fire.

Yes, it's a lovely park! When I checked the Ridley Creek Park map, it looked like the starting point was Parking Area #9. I had taken the Blue Trail to the White Trail, but never seen those ruins? Must've been the other direction on the White Trail? It is possible that some of the ruins in RCP are as old as the early 1700s? This area was among the first settled in the Penn Land Grant. Like many early areas settled on the East Coast, the waterways may have been much deeper before settlements over- developed and over- fertilized. **At any rate, those (possibly very old) buildings may no longer be structurally safe? I suppose I earned the nickname "stick-in-the-mud"... but i just get nervous thinking about the force of the weight if a wall collapsed? ** The "very crowded part" along Sycamore Mills Rd (resident vehicles only allowed) Is now called "The Five Mile Loop", much of it along the creek or smaller stream. Careful though because there's a rather steep incline for a good ways. ...and finally...this was Chester County UNTIL 1789, when Delaware Co. split off

I don't understand what motivates people to do graffiti especially on old ruins. It is vandalism and criminal. I wish they would not do it. Through cliffs videos I have come to realize how common it is even among hikers..

Hikers don't carry spray paint but inner city descendants of freed slaves do.
