My father was the Harbour Master and our family of which there were five of us in total grew up in that very building and I have to agree it is shameful that it has been left in such a sorry state, as my two sisters and myself have so many happy memories of childhood days growing up there. Our father, whose name was Captain Moug, passed away in 1966 aged just 49 and as it was a tied house we were given 6 months to find somewhere else to live. I would like to thank Sam and Jess for treating our old home with such respect, I'm sure my sisters would agree

My gosh I was gobsmacked with historical beauty of this grand building. It is a tribute to the grandeur of yesteryear and the pride the people that built these buildings took in the art of woodwork and brass and architecture, nothing left to happenstance. It makes me sad to think those days are gone and the beauty of this place sits in the dark unappreciated and unloved. You guys are amazing in your explores. Your respect and appreciation for the past gives me hope for the youth and the future. Thank you and cheers from Sugarland Texas ❤️🇬🇧🇺🇸

Such a beautiful majestic building, how awesome are the revolving doors? I love the way so many different eras are represented here!! Please tell me this grand building isn’t going to be left to rot? It’s to good not to do something good with it. Some people cannot see how important it is to keep historical buildings such as this one. Thank you Sam and Jess for showing us around xx

It's Dundee, so expect to see a "mysterious" fire shortly which conveniently will leave it "structurally unsafe" leading to the council able to demolish it and sell it for housing land and this get around "listed building issues" This happens all the time in Dundee.

My Gran lived here with her mother and her two sisters when her father Captain Norman Moug was harbourmaster. They left after his sudden death in 1966. Behind the locked door is the service stair to the maid's room and the old laundry. The maid's room was given a makeover and made into a bedroom for my Gran. She says through the hole in the wall she can recognise the stairs and the stippled wall decoration. Strange to see the inside after so many years

I came across your channel by accident, Custom House was recently under the ownership of the Apex Hotel group who were supposedly going to turn it into a boutique hotel. The new owners are 'supposedly' going to turn the building into residential properties but more than likely will become apart of the companies portfolio until another buyer comes in.

What a great old building. So happy you were able to get inside. That great floor to ceiling fireplace was fantastic. First time any of us had seen something like that. Outstanding. The lift (elevator) was also a great find. What a grand building it must have been in times gone by. The black and white floor tile patterns were a treasure to behold. You don’t find craftsmanship like that nowadays. So much fun. Thanks for taking us along. Great explore Sam, Jess, & Friends. 👍🏻😃

Can you imagine that building as private home wow. Makes me absolutely sick to think that that building that beautiful historic building is just sitting waiting to be crumbled. So much history. Did you ever find the source of the music? Does second floor flooring is beautiful!! I agree the architecture is just incredible. And the wood is so beautiful. Look at that fireplace oh my gosh it’s gorgeous with the clock in it. Beautiful ceiling all carved. It was probably the servants quarters at the top floor. Oh my gosh that list is incredible. Beautiful architecture even in that. And wooden knobs. Amazing. I loved the hidden staircase work on it was beautiful. It’s beautiful from the outside as well. The name of the building too bad somebody can’t buy it and put it back to a manor house again. Thank you so much Sam and Jess!! Good to see you guys again! You both look good. Great explore. Thank you so much. So many beautiful architectural features; proper craftsmanship; you just don't see this type of detail in modern buildings. And there it is rotting because in our throw away world, no one cares enough to love it. Very sad. I recently visited a building that had been a grand house, then an office, then flats, and is now being renovated right down to the original victorian wallpaper. This building deserves the same.

What a great building. I loved the parts that go right back to its origin like the fabulous revolving doors and that gorgeous room that you liked Sam with the huge fireplace and beautiful chandelier lights, the lift was fantastic. I did not like the 60s and 80s updates just ruining some of the best features. Otherwise all those rooms would be unused or just empty.

Agree 1/3 watched and I concur with the comment what a waste. The wood is awesome. The building needs to be saved. Oh yeah 🍷!🐟

Love the picture of this place against the blue night sky. What a shame it's been left to ruin. And not being able to get into the hidden staircase. I would love to have been able to see where they lead to! And that ladder. I'd be so curious I'd just have to climb it lol. If only I had the money... I'd buy places like this up and restore them to as original as possible and use them again.

Great video and what a lovely building! There's a way to test a mirror to see if its a 2 way mirror just point your finger with fingernail touching the glass and if there's a gap between your finger and your reflection then its a true mirror but if it looks like your fingers are touching its a 2 way.

You were only 10 mins away from my house you should have popped in for coffee, dundee city councils to busy stealing money 💰 to repair any beautiful buildings, there are quite a few sculptured buildings around dundee, really enjoyed this video 📹 guys thanks so much, take care, see you in the next explore xxx

Too busy wasting money on the v&a that no one goes to visit no matter what they tell the public it does not bring people to visit the city especially since the city centre is a hole and full of empty shop fronts

@@Thebigm8283 your totally spot on, the v&a is an eyesore throwing money at stupid buildings does nothing for the city, as Sam said get it renovated try and keep as much older detail as possible, the custom house is more pleasing to look at, come dcc pull your hand out out of the kitty and restore these beautiful memories for dundee people.

@@valeriemcmahon7998 the price to park in the city centre also isn’t helping dundees situation if your a local and want to nip in town for an hour it’s costing almost £3 just for an hour or less on street parking why would you waste the cash going in town when you can buy online and get your goods next day most of the time the council are strangling Dundees chances as a successful city for example the Olympia fiasco that’s going on at the moment
