It’s the depth of summer in Portugal, we’ve made our way to a mansion that resembles an Asian temple!
A dwelling has been here for 436 years, gradually evolving into the work of art that’s here today.
An exhibition of colours and textures, a wooden masterpiece, crafted from reclaimed treasures gathered from all over the world.
A thousand stories are combined in this place, a woodworkers labour of love, transforming every inch to create their dream abode.
With three floors to discover, we’re impressed to find each one is as ornate as the last…
But nobody has returned for some years now, a forgotten paradise, this unique home is now hidden away behind closed doors.

Wow, this was like straight out of a fairy tale. The people who lived there were like self made architects, that created their own castle out of pretty much anything they could find and work with. I love how they just painted on the red carpet on the stairs. 😂👍 So amazingly creative. Thanks for showing us this huge building of art. ❣️❣️❣️

What a tapestry! I absolutely love the journeys you take us all on. I got a feeling of the place with the grotto for some reason? Thanks again for taking me away from this crazy world, if not for a very few minutes. Like Steve said, you all are " slaying the seen "

I love it! This place is incredible! The vibrant warm colours have a Turkish tearoom meets Marrakesh market kind of vibe, it’s easy to forget that this is in Portugal!! So nice to see all the bright Middle Eastern patterns and influences. The stained glass is also fabulous. Thank you Sam and Jess for showing us this unique treasure! Xx

Louis II (King Ludvig of Bavaria) of the House of Wittelsbach built castles in Bavaria one was called Neuschwanstein (the one on the wall in that bedroom) he went mad and drowned himself in the lake in 1886 This house is very like the inside of that castle, same colours and arches and openings in the walls, lots of artworks. I found some family crests that are similar to the one here with the double-headed eagle which connect to Charles V of Germany, Bavaria, Malta. this image, double-headed eagle holding orb and sceptre with an orb and cross above each eagle head is the symbol of Imperial Russia, the coat of arms of Moscow in also, the Russian Memorial church of Saint Alexus of Moscow in Saxony Germany has this crest with an H in the centre of it. Then I found the coat of arms of the Habsburg family of Austria and the crest in the castle here on all the furniture matches that one perfectly. Wittelsbach, Charles V and Habsburgs were all connected in history TIBI GLORIA SEMPER means, To You Glory Always. This was my favourite of your videos so far, wow! This is someones life's work

Wow! This has got to be one of my favourites so far, for uniqueness and eccentricity. It’s magical. Imagine the creative brain of the people that lived and loved their home. I wish you’d spoken to scary grannies about who lived here. I’d love to know the history and which family it’s tied into.

Eccentric is absolutely the word for this fascinating place, someone from Germany lived here and wanted to remind themself of the typical Rhine Castles. The clue is in the name on the bed head, "Wittelsbach". This was a German dynasty who ruled over many areas in history and are related to our own Royal Family, they are still going strong. I think your castle builder ended up in Portugal for one reason or another, maybe he was an embarrassing nutcase who was encouraged to move, you know, the eccentric mad uncle or whatever. This family is mega rich so probably still own the property but don't need to sell it. Fascinating place and I hope this snippet fills some bits for you. Best wishes, The Old Fart. I know things!

Hi! It looks like a communal “family” straight out of 1960’s Haight/Ashbury district of San Francisco moved in and made it home! Lol! I can imagine heavy clouds of maryjane and incense wafting throughout; loaves of homemade bread in the oven, a big pot of vegetable barley stew on the stove, and brownies for dessert-With happy children laughing, running, and playing underfoot-maybe some Ravi Shankar on the turntable at on end of the home and a band practicing on another floor at the other end-“recycle” hauls to bring in abandoned treasures from the surrounding area to incorporate into their decor. 😊

Hey Sam and Jess!!! This Hass to be one of my all-time favorite castles that you guys have toured. Yes they were eclectic but they were the forefront of recycle reuse and incredible artists however the artwork in there was mostly posters. The furniture was phenomenal! I wonder why they left. Didn’t seem to be an older person‘s house unless they were from another country and had to go back for family reasons or whatever. Can you imagine what it looks like when all their stuff was in it the library would’ve been full. The kids library wouldn’t of had 💩in it🤣😂😡🤮. Just a phenomenal tour all in all. One which I will go back and watch again. It looks like it was numerous lifetimes of people that were living there that just continued the artwork and put their own stamp on it. Thank you both so much fun. Be safe travel happy💜🤟🏻😎🇺🇸

What an absolutely amazing and so very artistically unusual castle. Would have loved to have known the creators of this spectacular place! It's a real assault to the senses, you would need to spend loads of time in each room to take it all in ! Am actually jealous of you guys seeing it with your on eyes, what an absolute privilege! Shame the relatives don't care for it and contents, they could open it as an artsy museum, couldn't they. I certainly would pay for the privilege! Thank you so very much for showing it to us!
