I travelled on the Fawley Flyer back in 1978. It would be nice to see that line open to passengers again as getting into Southampton from the Waterside is becoming harder and harder.

In Ireland these closed lines are being reopened for train traffic where viable. And where not Greenway or cycle paths between towns. Se Greemways are 50 or 60 Km Long. The stations rooms platforms being converted into Bicycle hire centres and cafes / restaurants. Great for tourists and locals alike. Very safe with spectacular views in some places.

I remember on a rail tour Fawley station was included with a good few others, which may have included (the memory is getting a bit fuzzy after 40 years having elapsed) Weymouth Quay. A really excellent day out!

Would make a very useful contribution to transport in the Southampton area. Hastings DEMU travelled along the line a little while ago. You have kept us very much up to date - no need to change the visuals. Besides, I absolutely love Pachelbel's Canon!

I would like to see something about the closure of the station at St Andrews in Fife. Despite being a popular and important connection to Dundee, it was a casualty of the Beaching cuts, executed with blatant dishonesty.

@@trainman86trainstramsandmore Unfortunately I don’t have any photos as I was just a teenager then and didn’t realise the value of such records. The station kiosk/bookshop was rebuilt along with refurbishing the station, in order to provide a sufficient loss to justify the closure. The trains provided a vital link for St Andrews students also attending lectures in Dundee medical school, as well as many commuters working in Dundee and living in more comfortable St Andrews. Of course the closure benefited the bus company but I don’t know if they were directly in on the deal.

A half hour service? With the mainline traffic as well no one will ever get over the level crossing in Junction Road in the middle of Totton. It would bring the town to a halt!
