That store has stood abandoned for 20 years. Once a store or restaurant closes in Corsicana, the building will stay empty until it's torn down or falls down. The town never actively pursues other retailers to move in and use the vacant facilities.

Well what a shame! I'm surprised an ALDI was allowed to be built at the front of the old Kmart parking lot, yet this abandoned eyesore wasn't torn down for new uses. And what's really sad is that the ALDI being built means there definitely is no chance anymore of a KROGER MARKETPLACE or H-E-B PLUS store being built here, which the site normally would have been perfect for.

I seem to recall, at one point, they tried to get a developer in to create a mini-mall with it, but that evidently fell through. I figure the city will eventually condemn it and have it torn down.

I went here earlier today, looks exactly the same with even more decay. I did a walk by as well and got some photos. I was able to see into one of the entrances where a board fell, but the interior doors are closed so there was glare.

What a shame! Unfortunately the current Walmart Supercenter in Corsicana was under construction at the time this Kmart closed. Sad because if Walmart had known earlier that the Kmart would be closing, they could have taken over the Kmart building instead of letting it go to waste and become an eyesore! I wonder if the original Walmart in Corsicana (which definitely opened in the 80's during the "WAL-MART DISCOUNT CITY" era) was a former Woolco or possibly a former TG&Y store. As for this now-abandoned Super Kmart, was it a brand new store or was it a replacement for an older traditional Kmart somewhere else in Corsicana?

@@trentpettit6336 The Super Kmart was built new to replace the much smaller Kmart store across the street from the old Navarro Mall. The original Walmart at College Park Mall was a new store built with the mall in the mid 1980's.

This property would seem to have been perfect for a Kroger Marketplace store (since there isn't a Kroger in Corsicana already) or possibly an H-E-B Plus store which could have replaced the small H-E-B currently in the heart of town, but I guess neither grocery chain was interested… the fact that an ALDI was built in the parking lot definitely proves no other grocery chain will ever build at this site. Corsicana already has a Walmart but not a Sam's Club, has a Home Depot but not a Lowe's, and has neither a Target nor a Kohl's, so it's a bit surprising that nobody ever wanted this former Kmart site. And ironically, Kohl's has a distribution center in Corsicana but no stores nearby. There once was a Venture distribution center in Corsicana which was sold to Kmart, and ironically Corsicana never had a Venture store (most of which were turned into Kmart) but had this already existing Super Kmart store! Would you happen to know if the Kohl's distribution center is the former Venture/Kmart one? And would you happen to know what the Big Lots in Corsicana used to be? I wonder if maybe it had been a Pic N Save or MacFrugal's store after the original tenant closed. There's a Super 1 Foods in the heart of town (near the H-E-B store) which looks like a former Safeway.

I guess we should consider ourselves lucky. Our Kmart opened in the fall of 1990, and closed down for good in December 2019. A couple months ago they started rehabbing the building, and are splitting it into three businesses. A TSC type store will be one of them, and a Marshalls is said to be another. The third business is so far not known.

Wow that Super K-Mart reminds me so much of the old Uniontown, PA store! My local K-Mart in VA closed in 2014 and in 2019 the city tore the building down because it was in such poor repair.

@@trentpettit6336 YES! I miss the A. C. Moore craft store. The Yorktown K-Mart was one of the last ones to close in VA. It used to be a super K-Mart then sold half of it's space to Kroger for a grocery store.

I'm originally from Corsicana. I remember people being so excited we were getting this store. I shopped in this location many times. My dad even briefly worked there during a period when he was between jobs. Sad that the structure went to pot like that. After the SuperK closed, there were a couple of attempts to attract developers to convert it into a strip mall or create some sort of a "mini-mall" with it. Eventually, they'll probably wind up condemning it and tearing it down. Bummer.

@@trentpettit6336 -My family moved to Corsicana in 1979 (when I was 14). The first WalMart I remember was at the end of the College Park Mall at 7th & 45th Street, and it opened in 1984. I think that location is an Atwoods now (I could be wrong what's there now, I only visit sporadically). I think the WalMart Super Center that's in Corsicana now was built sometime after '95. Now, I can't say if there was ever a TG&Y in Corsicana (maybe before I lived there?) but I do know there was a Gibson's Discount Center on 7th Avenue (where the Big Lot's is now). I believe it closed for good not too long after WalMart opened.

Check out the abandoned Kmart in Des plaines IL which was the last one in Illinois. Open 1967 to 2020. I haven't wanted to look at it since it closed. It will be torn down at some point in the future.

Our Super K Mart opened in 1995 and closed in 2003 since it moved up the street from its old original location and was converted to a Lowes so it managed to get a new lease on life while the old location was turned into a Walmart after they razed the old building.

You might want to get a UPS. I have a server that used to run FreeBSD. If power was interrupted the entire drive was corrupted and needed a re-install. A UPS isn't terribly expensive and might save you a headache if power outages are often.

Yeah I remember it being closed when I was like in 3rd grade. I went to the Navarro Elementary School nearby. One memory I have is during field day, we were at the front of the building playing and I stopped and stared at the auto center garages of the building. I'm 30 now. And I don't live there anymore hehe.

@GRM Adventures what i think it's weird my Kmart in Mcmurray Pennsylvania wallieb26 didn't do abandoned or closing wasn't on a closing list according to Yelp the reason why it closed a few weeks in october before kmart filed chapter 11 bankruptcy back in 2018 The kmart closed due to alot of complaints with it being bad in there and the worker's not cleaning it however there was not many good reviews about the place so it's sad it was the only kmart ever in washington County because it was the closest kmart from bridgeville after the bridgeville one closed 6 months before the Mcmurray Pennsylvania one well my kmart would have probably been on the Chapter 11 Bankruptcy wave in 2018 or it would still be open now and be one of the last ones left also it's sad there's 24 left and 9 are closing including the Marshall Michigan ones well rip Kmarts in Michigan and The Midwest Or whatever 1962-2020 It was fun while it lasted for 58 Years a long time.

Kmart had 18 stores with one million dollar leases per year and this was one of those. Once planned to subdivide but never happened. Once used as a hurricane relief donation center. Not many years ago some guys from Dallas came down and were stripping the copper wiring out of it. The third night they were caught.

Discovered your videos a few day back & really enjoy them! I especially like this one because Kmart is to me what Ames is to you. I went to Kmart with my grandparents growing up & then took them when I could drive, then took my daughter!! We were pretty much devastated when Kmart & Sears shut down. Our Dillards closed last year & JcPenney's will be closed soon. Hate to see the places I've shopped at all my life shut down. Thanks for the great videos!!!!
