"Happy with the small things" I love that. I wish more people could discover how keeping everything simple can give so much happiness with everything around you. We are living with cluttered minds, always wanting something more, today. When you're content with what you have, and don't have more than you need.. that's happiness.

I think this was a beautiful home when they were young and sharing life’s adventures together. After his Wife died it seems he gave it little care beyond leaving special areas as she had left them, perhaps as a way of honouring her memory. Life was much simpler in their younger years when people didn’t feel the need to fill their homes with all the latest gadgets and toys, but preferred a good conversation to other distractions. Thanks for sharing this with us.🖤🇨🇦

I agree Tamara , you can tell he lived primarily in that kitchen area. I think that is why there are 2 beds in the bedroom. After his wife died he no longer wanted to sleep in their bed so he brought in another for him. Sad.

Great comment especially the part of people preferring conversation than other distractions, I can remember as a kid my Aunt Shirley would have friends that would stop in and they would sit and have a cup of coffee and just catch up on the latest news. Cheers from Sugarland,Texas

Lesley, you have such compassion for these people and their homes and the lives they left. I know a lot of them are looking down on you and the way you tell their story and gently handling a piece of their lives left behind. Your parents taught you boys respect, and I know they are proud of you. You mention your parents a lot, and Jordie, this is why the world loves you. Do you have any more siblings besides Jordie? Look, I live in a small town in Southern Indiana, the USA. I have ten grandchildren. Five grandbabies and five great-grandchildren, and I would like to think of you as my soul grandsons... They call me Mamaw, so know you have someone who cares for you across the pond. My grandsons are 23,24, and 25 granddaughters are 35 and 26, then the great-grandbabies are from ages ten months, 8, 9, and 11, and 16. Years. In April, my husband will be married 55 years. This is our history. We have lived in this house for 36 years, and I'm going to print this info and put it around to be found if something should put us in a situation like the homes you explore. Stay sweet like you both are, and stay safe. The US is falling apart right now. We had the best President Trump, and through cheating, this one is bad really corrupt! Love from Mamaw!🙏🇺🇸♥️

Especially when you narrate with your admirable imagination about the possible life of the people having lived there. - Also this video was once more such a great pleasure to watch, and I really enjoyed watching it and listening to your narration. - Some rooms in this abandoned pidgeons fancier house still had a very timecapsule like vibe and looked so cozy. - Wonderful video, dear Lesley! - Greetings also to your adorable brother Jordy! I was so delighted to even know what Pegion breeding or racing ( Milking) was! I could not figure it out at all by reading the title and was confused as to what on earth it could be, as pigeons would not give milk. Thank you for that explanation. Farming had to be so hard, all by hand in those days. And the whole family ( well they only had each other (but maybe farm help one does not know for sure? But if a 'small farm most likely not') She would be baking and cooking all day long... while he was busy with animals and outdoor things. But she may well have jumped in to help as necessary on some days am sure too. Sad to think things are just falling apart, and all the items they loved and needed to live and what they cherished are just going to be buried, where they spent many years. He sad by his coal stove and kept warm as he aged. The perfect small spot for him. Each night, thinking and maybe reading and keeping warm. Such a special place. In those days he would probably make his coffee on the stove and always " Went to bed with the chickens, and got up early with the Roosters.' So did not stay up so long after dark, had to go to bed to get up early the next day!? What a lovely, comfortable home this had to have been in its day. Such a sad story as to their not having children and his wife dying what we may today call younger side of the senior age Not easy to be left behind and then to be alone, ( he truly loved her never to marry again) Looked like ( by pictures) they were a very beautiful family though. Dressed rather nicely and kept themselves up so well. It would be a special time to have pictures taken am sure in those days! Now we click a button but they would need to go to a photographer and go through so much getting dressed up special etc. This was quite a glimpse into life back 100 years and I thank you for all you all do, to bring this to us all I know it is exciting and yet not so easy always to do all of this. But so many memories am sure!

It is always fascinating to see which objects inside an old abandoned home actually stand up to the test of time. The china and the well made pottery usually are in pretty good shape but only if they are inside a cabinet made of a well finished hardwood. Inside some of the most dilapidated houses the good hardwood furniture still stands looking so beautiful! The hardwood cabinets and beds and other well made furniture stand there looking pristine among the other items that are rotting and falling apart. There was expert workmanship put into making what was considered ordinary furniture many years ago. A young person had to do an apprenticeship under an older expert carpenter for years in order to learn to become a carpenter and start their own business. Skill was required to make the furniture that would last for many years and be used by many generations of families. Today most furniture is made of plastic or some cheap metal or some synthetic material that can be pressed out of some machine. No skill and no effort required. Some poorly paid person helps box the parts up and sends them to us people in the west that are being scammed and who use the stuff for a few years and then throw it away when it breaks. Everything is considered to be disposable because most things are not made to last. The big multinational corporations can’t continue to get your money if things last for a long time. No wonder our landfills are stuffed with millions of items. No wonder that the country that manufactures most of these disposable items is the most polluted country in the world! We are all led to believe that the USA and the other western countries are the great polluters of the world. Not true. Most of the manufacturers of the west have been over taxed and over regulated into bankruptcy. That is why millions of Americans are on welfare. Most of the manufacturing businesses of the west were bought up by the now huge multinational foreign manufacturing corporations long ago and the jobs were sent to Plastic Land where the workers have no say about their day to day lives much less their wages and working conditions. China and India are the top two polluters of the globe. The people of the west that came up with the technology have been scammed. Now everything is being taken from them. The majority of people cannot even own their own home anymore. They are stuck in little apartments with their electronic devices that keep their minds full of anything in order to keep them from realizing that they actually have nothing. Their options for life have been taken by the elites who now own everything and even run your governments. They decide for you what your options are. Kings and queens may be gone but there is a new kind of royalty today that have snuck into power. First they bankrupt your country by taking away the jobs and then they force you into the form of government that they want you to have. A form of government that takes away your ability to govern yourself. Anyway, no more quality furniture unless, of course, you are an astronomically rich global elite who has stolen the wealth of the west from the people.
