Are ya sure the tunnel and tracks are abandoned? The rails seem to still have some shine to em and little to no rust.
@MaxZomboni5 жыл бұрын
Exploration Unknown I hate to tell you this, but those track do not look abandoned. I think you were walking through that tunnel on active tracks. Looking at Google Maps the tracks appear to still be intact, and have railroad warning lights at the crossings. They don't usually keep the warning lights up at the crossing, if the tracks are abandoned. Be careful walking through railroad tunnels unless you are certain the tracks are abandoned.

@timdaugherty59215 жыл бұрын
This was the L&Ns(Louisville and Nashville) branch line to Maryville TN. This is used some for switching hopper cars, but not often. These rails were built in the late 1890s and the tunnel was finished around 1885. At the west bore, there was a water tower, and you can see the foundations of the tower still, I saw it in your video. The secret door was a underground tunnel that was filled in years ago by the RR. I believe a mixed freight train ran through here in 2017 but not sure. I will ask my dad. He ran trains all around downtown there. Good stuff!

Ironic I find this video looking at something else. Anyway, there was a little house with a parking lot for a front yard, right above the tunnel where y’all started. I grew up in that house during high school. 418 Mimosa. Never went into that tunnel. But wow. Cool now after all these years, I finally see what it looks like. When I was a kid tho we walked those tracks many times only going the other way to friends houses etc. never through the tunnel. It’s a cool, creepy area that part of south Knox. I miss the hospital being there, the old hotel, Smokey mountain market. So many memories. Thanks y’all.

If you like train tunnels. Then you need to check one out in Vasper TN. It's below Caryville or Jacksboro TN. On old highway 25 i believe. The road goes to Rocky Top or Lake city. There is a rr track that passes over the tunnel below. They are in use. But it's cool to see. It's around a sharp curve before you get to Jacksboro coming from Rocky Top.

I'm in the UK and this one makes me think of when I was a kid and we went exploring on our ponies. There were old disused rail tracks that passed by limestone quarries and coal mines. We would see lumps of coal by the track and remains of the old mines. Some of the track had been removed, some of it still existed, but it's route took us for a good distance. Aaah great memories. My hubby lived in Cannock where there were coal mines and he played on the old disused rail tracks. He and his mate found it fascinating that if they kicked at the top of the coals it would start to glow. So when it got to Autumn/Winter, they would take a couple of potatoes in foil, bit of butter and a couple of forks, some cans of fizzy pop, go get that coal glowing, add some pieces of wood to make a fire and have baked potatoes. They sat on their rucksacks and took their feet out of their boots to get them warm. Love places like that. Little urban treasures.
