On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.

Glad to see you, Gly! Regarding that graffiti at 30:05. Wonder if it was put there by Gustav Liljestrom. He was a fairly well known landscape painter from Stockholm, Sweden who emigrated to the US in 1902. He and his brother were copper miners in Arizona for some time (thanks Google) before moving east. Just a shot in the dark but who knows! That name is not all that common here so maybe?

Always fascinated at these mines Gly. Not a stanger to hard work but it always strikes me at how much extremely difficult work was exerted by the miners that dug and excavated these mines . I always wonder how many of them actually made money or whether their dreams of fortune were dashed and eventually had to give up or went broke trying. In today`s video I was also struck by wondering how in the heck in that small narrow angled shaft you managed to get down into that it must have been extremly difficult to retrive the ore that they were able to get. I am always in awe of people, places and things that went before me. Deep respect is due

It is good to see you back in my stomping grounds! I too recognized your location. Arizona has everything if you know where to look. It is funny but almost all smaller towns in Arizona are named after a mine. #196 on the new channel!!

Some roads around the state are named after mines too. :) White Spar road, or highway 89 between Prescott and Wilhoit was named White Spar because the road was built to get the ore from the White Spar mine, a few miles North of Wilhoit, to Prescott to process. I read about it a few years ago, since I live off of White Spar in Wilhoit and I'm fascinated by mining history. A friend of mine got a chance to mine a little at the old White Spar mine a few years back and he gave me a chunk of antimony he pulled out of the ground himself. White Spar mine was one of the only rare mines in Arizona that produced any quantity of antimony. He also gave me a huge chunk of a variety of minerals....barite, silver, copper minerals, and probably a little calcite too. It also came from White Spar mine. :) Those pieces are treasures to me, because they came from a mine that made a place in history and still has a lot left to give.
