Whatever crap that developer is going to build in its place won't have anywhere near the durability, quality of timber, or craftsmanship of this mansion. I could understand if it were falling down, but this thing looks almost move-in ready. I'm sure it cost more to demo it than to get it spruced up and up to code.

@@bethmann3283 nothing that I could find. It's hard to get that info sometimes. I wish it was easier. From what's inside I believe that they were older in age and just wanted to move on. The land is now a bunch of overpriced houses.

What a shame that the house was demolished. The beautiful double wedding band quilt in the upstairs bedroom I hope someone saved it. It’s worth quite a good chunk of money. Saw lots of valuable items as you did your walk. The French doors also were worth saving. Thank you for sharing your findings.

Yell all you want. You have a right too. The previous owner probably had it for sale for a new buyer and the developer most likely told them I will give you cash for the entire thing. Most sellers will take that in a heartbeat. The area this is located in is pretty populated and in demand. When they see a house for sale with 20+ acres, they want it

That's pretty depressing. Such a neat set of houses. Hell, I'd have been happy in the guest house. All that wood paneling was so nice. And that really neat stairway. There was all kinds of old and now rare stuff in there. There was a good bit of furniture that would have been quite pricey in its day, and would still pull a good price. Probably a lot of interesting books in there as well. But it's a real bummer seeing a gorgeous set of really neat homes like that and knowing they were just rolled over for a bunch of McMansions, or whatever.

Both the mansion and 2nd building were beautiful and filled with many valuable items. I think there was an copper funeral urn on the stove in the 2nd building. Both buildings were so interesting in their structure and interiors. So sad they were demolished.

I sell collectibles in an antique mall , and live in a 100 year old house ( which I did not remodel ) . Developers are just trashers of history , just disgusting . Should have been listed as a historic structure to save it from this fate . Could have been a restaurant , offices or sold for a single family home or duplex . The previous owner put the house up for sale and a developer bought the property. It's in a pretty congested area and since this property had 20 acres, a developer sees it as a way to build more houses that will sell quick

the cottage had some victorian European china when you first walked in, along with the Franciscan, by Hall on the shelves nearby (fall leaves on the pieces)-most of the stuff is 50's-70's French Provincial/ or colonial ( saw 3 hanging mirrors-all Mahogany, with the center barley twist finials)-and last, but not least ( on the blue mattress twin beds's), a chrome plated 1920's coffee urn-looks to be Universal (Landers, Frary & Clark)... I probably would have just backed my truck up and...well, you know...-)

that's the thing! The sheer artistry of all the interior finishing...the columns, that massive mirror upstairs, actually two one built-in and one huge one in the first b-room; the french doors, numerous elevation transitions, the windows, the knotty pine stained dark in the 'little' house. all fantastic! My God. Builders today who throw up sheet rock, making everything square and boxy don't even know how to craft a home of this complexity and character anymore. The architecture & finishings are what MADE this amazing place. My heart breaks it is gone! It was very well cared for, too. 😭

It's funny, strange, not ha ha, how people around the world in most countries, they preserve or restore their history. Here we destroy it. 😢 i can almost hear the echoes of laughter and conversation as you walk through the common areas. As a delivery driver, I would go through old neighborhoods and see the classic architecture, then a spot where someone tore down the old house and put up a cardboard box modern art masterpiece, not only destroying that house but the character of the neighborhood while they were at it.

There needs to be some sort of code of ethics for developers. This beautiful building that survived over 150 years was demolished to make way for cheap crap that won’t last 40. The cost to build this today is more than the entire value of this “developers” project. This guy is the construction equivalent of a private equity firm. Whoever destroyed this should be publicly scorned.

No decay? No vadalism? Move in ready! Sheesh... Would need a tasteful addition with an elevator to provide for ADA and late life access to the upstairs but this was a GRAND LADY of a house.

Yes, I saw something valuable: A gorgeous Victorian home that some sick developer destroyed to build a bunch of tightly packed cheap cookie cutter garbage houses.

It looks more like built around 1890-1910, not 1850’s

I could be wrong. When I did a look up it said 1850s but maybe that was only one part of the house. I know a lot of these places get additions later on
