What a trip down memory lane. Met my husband in NZ - he sailed there from Denmark on a 30' Bandholm. We travelled from Opua to the South Island and did the requisite hiking, glaciers, and sightseeing in an old Toyota Hiace van handed down from other sailors in Opua. Totally get that NZ buzz from the incredible scenery, chill people, and sense of total freedom...

@shanep5121 Жыл бұрын
@@JConk007 yea, and it's dirty water (thanks, Duke Power) but it's 512 miles of coast, so a lot of room. But thanks for mentioning the stumps. I hadn't thought about that. Where would they be coming from? Are people throwing trees in the water? Surely any trees that were there when they flooded would be rotten away by now, right? I'll have to ask around and see where to avoid.

Interesting. I started out bicycle touring and am switching to sailing.😂 I feel the two have a lot in common as well and compared to living out of panniers a small boat will be luxury. I'm getting old now and sailing sounds easier than pedaling all day.😂

"One of the things I crave is being a small human in a large natural world." Years ago I built a bus and drove a year around the US and Canada. It was a fascinating adventure and in the days of paper maps that highlighted the entire route taken. While there was so much to see, it was ultimately along a small thread of what is a huge country. There is no way anyone will experience everything the world has to offer, but if you can be still in the places you go, you can see the entire universe in anything.

Fabulous content. I too am an adventurous spirit and iv'e been flying gliders of 15 to 20meters this 20 years harnessing the power of nature without engine power just using the energy from the atmosphere, much like the sailing you do! The gliders are constructed with glass fibre and carbon just like sail boats and I fly them across the mountains of Ireland for adventure. Recently I've decided to take up sailing and since I live by the sea and being inspired by videos especially from yourself It's an adventure just waiting . Thankyou for the inspiration and congratulations on all your achievements .

Hello , a great preparation to leave your boat, you can too next time put plugs from outside into the seacocks so when you come back , nothing will grow inside them , and blocked them , when they are regularly used ..in NZ , they do not have a regular inspections of mooring? Like in Australia .accredited divers dive to inspect registered mooring asparagus or in many place they have a special barge who lift the mooring asparagus to check it ? It is compulsory in Australia do do it every 12 months to renew registered mooring , and really more than compulsory it is in my opinion a necessity.. take care

Waitangi plays a very important part in the history of New Zealand. The Waitangi Treaty was signed on 6th February 1840. The Treaty is an agreement, in Māori and English, that was made between the British Crown and about 540 Māori rangatira (chiefs). Interesting how there are about 75 Treaties with indigenous peoples in force within the Commonwealth today and Australia is the only country that lacks such a Treaty with its indigenous peoples.
