Pouring fresh water over the welts immediately after a jellyfish sting will bring that swelling down within 10-15 minutes. Lots of fresh water. Keep flushing the welts until the sting lessens. The welts will deflate but stay red, itch goes away. The colouration will last for a while, up to a year but less if you are in the sun often. I still have part of my “scar” after a year. I’ve grown real fond of it actually, you can see how the tentacles/legs laid over my knee

If you put vinegar on jellyfish stings it should take out the sting and effects from the stings. You can use urine as well if you don't have vinegar. You should keep vinegar on board just for stings, if you ever come across the irukandji or similar you really don't want to be unprepared.

Sam - keep Adolph's meat tenderizer on board for jellyfish stings. The enzyme in the tenderizer (papain) disassembles the protein that causes the sting.

Hey Sam, Spray on or rub white vinegar on the jelly fish sting and then rub it briskly. It takes away the burning sensation almost immediately. This works on the Portuguese man of War sting as well. Something to add to the first aide kit.

Old surf fishing remedy for those nasty jelly fish strings. Sprinkle some Adolph's meat tenderizer on them. Breaks down the venom which I believe is some sort of protein. I always kept a container of it in my tackle box. Mix it with the vinegar another viewer commented on for best results. Apply it as soon as possible after the sting to minimize the damage.

The jellyfish is a "man o war", (they get much bigger, so in a way you're lucky)...anti histamine and vinegar will help, but you may scar.... don't use urine, that's a old wives tale and utter bollocks. A local pharmacy will also help, the stings are quite common, esp off boats in the Med.
