Abarth Fiat 500 vs Fiat 500

I have the regular fiat 500 Turbo, it’s a really fun car. I plan on in the future upgrading it to around 220hp-250hp. First time I drove the car and fell in love with it.

Nice video! I own a 2015 500 Abarth and it is the most fun car I have ever driven. I live in the middle of nowhere Kentucky where the only traffic we have involves tractors and the Mennonite horse buggies and I get so many looks because everyone around here drives big trucks. Many people don't even know what the car is because it doesn't say Fiat anywhere on it. I also have to explain that it's not your regular everyday Fiat. I was coming out of the gas station one time I overheard some older guy say "WTF is that? They got a damn matchbox car here." LOL! The exhaust pops and the turbo whistle is the best part about the car. People rag on the 1.4L engine... and I'm like yeah.. it's a small engine but it's a small car and the 160hp is more than enough for this tiny car. I call it my pocket ferrari or my street legal go-kart haha.

That's so awesome!! I can imagine all the looks the car gets. And that sound it makes is just amazing. I'm seriously considering adding one to my garage. Already started looking at some used abarths. So glad I got to try it out.

I own a 2013 metallic black Fiat 500 Pop Automatic with less than 17,000 miles. I purchased it new and it is my back-up vehicle. Very peppy and stylish. Also very reliable and easy to park. I'm very interested in the Abarth model because of it's appearance and extra power so this video was of interest to me for sure!

Wow you have a 500 pop and feel that it is "preppy and stylish". You definitely don't need an abarth then, it's too good for you.

As far as I can tell, and I've read everything on the net I can about the FIAT 500, the only differences between the turbo-engine (which 90% of the N.A. FIATS & Dodge's appear to be) & the non-turbo engine are a set of pistons. I own a '12 Sport & as far as I can see, it gets the same crankshaft as the turbo, a set of 10.8 pistons instead of 9.8 compression, & that's it. Obviously it doesn't get the turbo unit, associated plumbing & dual intercoolers. And, maybe,the under piston oil squirters ? It seems (to me) it would be cheaper to give the non-turbo engine the same interchangeable crankshaft & connecting rods rather than produce separate pieces. Especially when the company is making relatively few non-turbo engines to begin with for the N. American market. I could be wrong, for I've not seen the inside of a non-turbo engine, but it gets the same aluminum bedplate & oil pan as all the rest on the outside.

The short answer is yes, but you'll need a lot of parts to go along with it.. Brackets, turn signals at the bottom, emblem, lower grill, fog lamps.. maybe some other parts and possibly paint if needed to change.

Can’t you just mod the 500 to be as fast or better than a Abarth? I’m asking because I’m a noob in the Fiat world and I am planning on purchasing on. I found a 500 for 12 grand 32,000 miles practically brand new. I thought I could get that and mod down the line.

Yes that can be done. It's really just about what you want. Some folks want the Abarth because of the history behind the name "Abarth".

What year is your wife’s car? Do you recommend a regular fiat 500 at 29k miles? I’m afraid to have issues due to the negative connotations

Her's was a 2012. I think a regular Fiat at 29k should be just fine. We bought her's at 70k miles with no issues.
