First of all, congrats on getting the gig with Vai. You're living the dream that many of us have had. I'm curious what you have been working on in order to prepare yourself for the upcoming shows and how you've managed the pressure. Also, I believe I saw you last November in the show in Boston and hopefully I'll get to see you again in a show in the near future!

Thanks so much for the kind words!! It's a special opportunity and I do not take it for granted :D that sounds like a great video idea... but in the meantime I'll briefly answer here. Preparation to play the music happened all last year, that's when I transcribed everything on the set list and learned all the parts. Then building sounds and a rig I've been kind of just in the process of as I acquire the gear and things that I need. Managing the pressure... not easy, but after teching for almost 90 shows I got really comfortable in the tour environment, and really learned my way through things. I got to sit in a ton, playing something almost every night, including sitar parts, keys parts, guitar parts. Each time I went up I felt a little more comfortable with what I was playing, and just tried to really focus on relaxing and enjoying the moment rather than anything else. I'm sure come March 24 and showtime I'll have plenty of nervous energy... My dad told me once - you'll always have the butterflies, you just have to learn to make them fly in formation (hence our band name, lol). So it'll just be all about channeling the energy and focus into doing what I love the most, playing guitar and performing. :)

@@DanteFrisiello Well, Dante, I watched you last night in Zagreb, Croatia, and let me tell you that your butterflies acted like a disciplined and highly skilled musical army. Watching and listening to your seemingly effortless transition from guitar to keyboards is a spectacle within a spectacle. Steve always picks killer bandmates, let me tell you that. :D Keep on rocking and much luck in your future endevours, which will, no doubt, lead into a legendary career. You've got it all, the talent, the skill, and the looks of a Mediterranean home wrecker, you bastard. :P Greetings from Zagreb and hope to see you play here again!

Hey Dante, great honest vid. Thanks for sharing. I watched every second of it. I also played one at NAMM a few years back and had the same impression. It’s always been in the back of my mind. Congrats on your opportunity brother. Talk soon.

If Chris says he does not care about gear, I will have to call him out, cause he does not have any room for furniture in his apartment. His coffee table is a Bogner Uberschall 😂

Abasi is already a guitar hero. In addition to the innovations for the guitar world in the style and way he composes, which is not new, but is different in some aspects, his approach is very cool. He still has his signature guitars with Ibanez, Ernie Ball Music Man and his own brand with these futuristic shapes. It's great!

The voicing switch changes the humbuckers sound on position 1, 3 and 5 to a PAFish kind of sound vs the modern sound of the other voice. Good luck for the tour and keep posting =)

Right. Yeah to me it sounds like it just makes things a little warmer, it's not a very drastic change, but I do find myself going back and forth with it on stage for different parts where I want a warmer sound

@@DanteFrisiello that´s about it. By the way positions 2 and 4 override the voicing switch so it doesn´t matter which one is activated 😉Hope you´re enjoying the tour!

Hi Dante! Loved this review, really informative, and I'm even considering purchasing one for myself. While touring, how well does the neck profile and intonation keep its stability? I know wenge can be a kind of porous wood, so I was wondering how well it holds up when going from one city to another where the climate/temperature/moisture changes can be a bit drastic

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed. It’s held up pretty well. We’ve done slight truss rod adjustments to adapt to weather changes. Also a slight recutting of the nut for string gauge change. It hasn’t moved any more than other guitars, and I’ve been extremely impressed by how both of my Laradas have stayed in tune. They’re just perfectly in tune all the time man

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed. They are beast guitars, I adore them. The EMI is really cool, it's slightly more "traditional" feeling, but still has the ergonomics and body shape that fit so well into you, especially while standing.

Very interesting. I have always been into gear to a point, but now days I'm all about a good strat with two EMG humbuckers and a multi effects straight to the front of house in the small places I would usually play. Leo Fender was a genius. ❤. He was such a a genius. .I have to have stainless frets and a wide radius neck and jumbo frets Otherwise if it has a strat body and neck I'm a happy camper. 😂 Great video man. Glad you like the guitar. That's all that matters is that you want to play man. ❤

@@DanteFrisiello Yeah, I used to use them with my Les Paul.. That short scale matters.. I'm using the EMG 85 in the bridge of the strat kinda like one of my hero's Gary Moore. Then the EMG 60 in the neck.. I saw you're lead playing for your solo and your harmonies you play with Steve.. Very cool man and you're a great guitar player sir.. interesting you were a lawyer.. You're about my son's age I would guess.. He's 29 and he just graduated medical school! Be Safe and well kind sir and best of luck.. All your hard work has paid off my friend!

I use a seven string for three songs in the set (Hydra, Zeus, Liberty) but at the moment I am using an Ibanez AZ which is fantastic! But hoping to get my hands in an Abasi 7 sometime soon 😍

I don't think so, I believe they're online sale only. I HIGHLY encourage picking one up, it's a really special guitar. Their resell value is pretty strong too, so if for some reason it doesn't work out for you, you can probably sell it on Reverb!

Being left handed has given me serious G.A.S. over the years… Growing up I had no diversity in my selection whatsoever… if I went to guitar center there was always one lefty squier strat and maybe a Les paul to play. My friends could sit all day playing one different guitar after another. As I got older all the online retailers gave me a much better selection, so I bought guitars. Now I have 8 😬.
