Abba Chiquitita Reaction 1. I think the first half is boring. I was kind of losing track of things BUT when it hits that chorus it really takes off. Obviously there is a buildup and being a first time viewer I'm not really aware of it. So ya. 2. The Piano accompaniment is very flamboyant. I feel like he's like a pianist that's doing an accompaniment and he wants to get some attention. 3. I can def see why this song was super duper popular. It makes sense. The lyrics are good and the beat it really cool. It's like a fusion beat. Isn't this really different from Dancing Queen?

@@jaybrielakoi7747 I should add that this song was written for UNICEF (the UN agency) and was performed at the Music for UNICEF concert at the UN Gen. Assembly. ABBA donated the copyright to the song to UNICEF and all of the profits from the song went straight to UNICEF in honor of The Year of the Child

The beat doesn't follow what the song is about. It's actually quite sad. It was written about Anna's daughter who was so sad every time she left to go on tour. It's one of the big reason ABBA just stopped. She could stand not being at home with her young daughter. Or so the story goes. They also gave all rights to this song to Unicef. A nice thing. How many other Groups at their height of commercial popularity would give the total rights away from a hit song. Not many I'd say.

Hej Jay, lets say it diplomatric: You saved the reaction. But never is the first half of this song boring. The guitar in the beginning, the piano, the slowly uplifting voices, event the brlliiant text and message. The dramaturgy of this song is just outstanding and this makes a complete masterpiece, you can´t cut anything of. If you don´t like the first half, where the dramaturgy is thoroughly build up. I can only explain that you must had kind of a drop here. All best from Germany

If all you've heard is "Dancing Queen" boy you really should explore more of ABBA's catalogue. As a band they really did all types of music and did it all very well. The keyboardist is Benny Andersson he also co wrote (music) most of their song's. The other guy is Bjorn Ulvaeus who co wrote (lyrics). The girls where their spouse's. The band still sells more than one million units a year. All of their music videos which in it's self was ground breaking in the 70's are on their YT channel. Thanks for the reaction.

Thanks for the reaction! Benny Anderson is a fantastic pianist. This was performed at the Concert for UNICEF at the United Nations. Many other artists performed that night. Abba has many different styles of music as they grew over the years. If you have any questions about them, feel free to ask me. I have been one of their biggest fans since I was 3 in 1976! If you want more Abba suggestions, let me know. Maybe you can do Abba through the years to see how they progressed lyrically and musically starting in 1972. Footnote, they will be releasing new music next year. First time since 1982.

The lyrics to Chi-qui-ti-ta (which may help you pronounce it correctly) are telling a story. If you listen to the lyrics you’ll hear that the music matches the sadness and the victory. Rather than say it’s ‘boring’, that consideration may help you appreciate the song more. ABBA’s songs usually have a story to tell and to approach their music from that perspective may assist you in being able to appreciate it at at a deeper level. By the way, all royalties of this song are donated to UNICEF.

I wouldn't be surprised if they have now passed the Beatles, as they continue to sell records. They also produced, as you probably know, a stage musical using their music, which was highly successful, and translated into several languages. In addition, the play, entitled "Mamma Mia" after one of their songs, was turned into a movie staring Merle Streep and others, which was a big hit internationally. Chiquita, in this context, would mean "little girl" as a term of endearment. Chiquitita is like a double diminuitive or "very little girl," reinforcing the same idea. ABBA recorded Chiquitita, Fernando, and Estoy Soñando/I have a Dream in both English and Spanish, with excellent pronunciation. Not bad for a group of Swedes. Looks like the Spanish versions were written first, since in the English versions there are gaps where one syllable has to be strung out to fill empty space and make stuff come out even.

ABBA had so many hits and other great songs, it's really hard to make a list of recommendations. But here are 25 of their best-known songs that I consider 'essential' for any newcomer: Dancing Queen (1976) 3:50 The Winner Takes It All (1980) 4:55 Chiquitita (1979) 5:26 Take a Chance on Me (1977) 4:05 Waterloo (1974) 2:46 Mamma Mia (1975) 3:32 Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) (Full-length Version) (1979) 4:49 Fernando (1975) 4:15 The Day Before You Came (1982) 5:50 The Name of the Game (1977) 4:54 Voulez-Vous (1979) 5:11 Money, Money, Money (1976) 3:05 Lay All Your Love on Me (1980) 4:33 One of Us (1981) 3:55 Super Trouper (1980) 4:13 Does Your Mother Know (1979) 3:13 Thank You for the Music (1977) 3:48 Eagle (Album Version) (1977) 5:51 Happy New Year (1980) 4:24 Knowing Me, Knowing You (1976) 4:02 I Have a Dream (1979) 4:44 Summer Night City (Full-length Version) (1978) 4:18 SOS (1975) 3:22 When All Is Said and Done (1981) 3:20 I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do (1975) 3:15 Important: the music videos of Eagle, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!, and Summer Night City are abridged versions. It's better to pick a different upload with the full version, that's why I also listed the song lengths. For all other songs, you can go with the offical music video, if there is one. Also, this is just the tip of the iceberg. I haven't included some of my own favourites because they weren't hits, but once you go down the rabbit hole you will discover just how great their catalogue truly is.

The first half is subtle and sweet. I don't think you like subtle and sweet. You notice the music more than the words.

Good reaction however, I feel there are much better ABBA songs to react to Winner Takes it All, SOS , Take a Chance on Me or Waterloo to name a few.
