Abba Chiquitita Reaction 1. I think the first half is boring. I was kind of losing track of things BUT when it hits that chorus it really takes off. Obviously there is a buildup and being a first time viewer I'm not really aware of it. So ya. 2. The Piano accompaniment is very flamboyant. I feel like he's like a pianist that's doing an accompaniment and he wants to get some attention. 3. I can def see why this song was super duper popular. It makes sense. The lyrics are good and the beat it really cool. It's like a fusion beat. Isn't this really different from Dancing Queen?

The beat doesn't follow what the song is about. It's actually quite sad. It was written about Anna's daughter who was so sad every time she left to go on tour. It's one of the big reason ABBA just stopped. She could stand not being at home with her young daughter. Or so the story goes. They also gave all rights to this song to Unicef. A nice thing. How many other Groups at their height of commercial popularity would give the total rights away from a hit song. Not many I'd say.

The lyrics to Chi-qui-ti-ta (which may help you pronounce it correctly) are telling a story. If you listen to the lyrics you’ll hear that the music matches the sadness and the victory. Rather than say it’s ‘boring’, that consideration may help you appreciate the song more. Chiquita, in this context, would mean "little girl" as a term of endearment. Chiquitita is like a double diminuitive or "very little girl," reinforcing the same idea. ABBA recorded Chiquitita, Fernando, and Estoy Soñando/I have a Dream in both English and Spanish, with excellent pronunciation. Not bad for a group of Swedes. Looks like the Spanish versions were written first, since in the English versions there are gaps where one syllable has to be strung out to fill empty space and make stuff come out even.

Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) (Full-length Version) (1979) 4:49 Fernando (1975) 4:15 The Day Before You Came (1982) 5:50 The Name of the Game (1977) 4:54 Voulez-Vous (1979) 5:11 Money, Money, Money (1976) 3:05 Lay All Your Love on Me (1980) 4:33 One of Us (1981) 3:55 Super Trouper (1980) 4:13 Does Your Mother Know (1979) 3:13 Thank You for the Music (1977) 3:48 Eagle (Album Version) (1977) 5:51 Happy New Year (1980) 4:24 Knowing Me, Knowing You (1976) 4:02 I Have a Dream (1979) 4:44 Summer Night City (Full-length Version) (1978) 4:18 SOS (1975) 3:22 When All Is Said and Done (1981) 3:20 I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do (1975) 3:15 Important: the music videos of Eagle, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!, and Summer Night City are abridged versions. It's better to pick a different upload with the full version, that's why I also listed the song lengths. For all other songs, you can go with the offical music video, if there is one. Also, this is just the tip of the iceberg. I haven't included some of my own favourites because they weren't hits, but once you go down the rabbit hole you will discover just how great their catalogue truly is.
