In 1979 ABBA donated all royalties for this song to UNICEF. In many parts of the world young girls are discriminated even before they are born. Every time you play Chiquitita, money is given to projects that supports the rights of young girls. Over the years millions of dollars. Thank you ABBA for helping those young girls. ABBA were almost a guilty pleasure when I was a kid. They were almost too mainstream, too ‘pop’. I was a punk and hard rock fan, and I didn’t want to admit I liked them, but I did. And the older I get, the more I realize that I was hearing songs that were timeless. And while I can use the word ‘timeless’ about many individual songs from my youth, ABBA is one of a very short list of groups that have an entire catalogue of classics that only gets better as the years go by.

My favorite ABBA song, I had asked a Spanish friend of mine once and she told me Chiquitita is a generic term for a young girl, kind of like how we would say "sweetie"; that unique piano sound is not a piano at all but Benny's custom harpsichord, which plucks the strings rather than banging them. Have a good day!

I'm so glad to see you again with reaction to ABBA several things to say about "Chiquitita" (1979) Chiquitita" means 'little girl' (with affection) in spanish And the melody have a spanish tune, specialy by the acustic guitar But the center is the wonderful piano, like akmost all ABBA songs "Chiquitita" is a beautiful song, it has hopeful lyrics, a melody that starts very soft with the blonde Agnetha's solo, then grows and explodes in a powerful chorus; Agnetha and Anni Frida's vocal harmonies are of excellence It allows us to check how excellent singers Agnetha and Frida are and what harmonies of excellence they achieve. It stands out especially when they stretch the monosyllables with great quality and beauty "Chiquitita" was premiered especially for the UNICEF Concert (January 9, 1979) and its royalties are eternal for UNICEF "Chiquitita" was ABBA's greatest success in Latin America, that prompted ABBA to record it in Spanish, and its success was so extraordinary that in the following year ABBA recorded a full album with their best songs entirely in Spanish ("Chiquitita" in Spanish is the biggest ABBA hit in My country Argentina) Chiquitita" is in the Top 3 of all ABBA worldwide biggest hits, with 'Dancing Queen" and "Fernando", and it's a fantastic Masterpiece The official video was filmedin Swizterland 1979 (ABBA goes for a TV Special) It's the only promotional video that ABBA made without Sweden I wish to see you soon in another reactions to ABBA songs GOD bless you and stay safe My best regards from Buenos Aires, Argentina, South América

absolutely hilarious. I totally forgot about this song but I do learn Abba from about second grade when I bought my first two pieces of vinyl across the street at a yard sale where they had a stack of well played and worn out single 45 rpms. I recognized The Beatles Yellow Submarine from the radio and we would all sing it on the playground in third grade. it was so easy to sing along. and then the second one I bought was Abba sos. that song Still slays me to this day. it's right from the same era. and it's rather simple pop but one thing you should realize is they started off singing Everything in Swedish but we're one of the first to learn how to write in English as far as composing songs and then deliver them that way but still with their Swedish affect. which to me is incredibly endearing
@stevedahlberg86802 жыл бұрын
incredibly similarly, Bjork was part of a pump band with her boyfriend and like every band from either Iceland or some neighboring areas, we're so far removed from English that it was revolutionary if one of them started just going to the trouble to write their songs in English from the start and then sing them and learn them that way. rather than trying to do and after the fact translation. they just happened to do this at the time, the sugar cubes, when that was exactly what was needed. the record companies over here absolutely love the fact that it was easy to market right away even though it was weird but for a certain demographic including mine at the time, this was huge. it was bigger than huge. It was like Deus. 😀

This is ABBA, most of their lyrics are sad but they sound happy. Chiquitita means little girl in Spanish. ABBA are one of the best pop group of all time.

You should definitely listen to "The Day Before You Came". It's hauntingly beautiful.

You should try Frida--I Know There's Something Going On. Such a good hit.
