The ABBA magic is back! Notice how «Don't Shut Me Down» is both a joyful AND melancholic song at the same time. It's pure ABBA magic. Thick harmonies, a wall of sound, so rich in details and beautiful elements. It actually starts with the chorus, then there is a verse, and then the chorus again. Wonderful!

I was born 2002 and yet i still grew up with Abba music since i'm a Swede. This is my first time experiencing an Abba comeback and it's unreal. The hype they had built up around the world makes me proud to be a Swede. Abba is amazing. They're the pride and joy of Sweden.

ABBA are back and sound just as good (if not better) than they did back in the 1970s/80s. Bjorn and Benny are songwriting geniuses and Agnetha and Frida's voices are still beautiful. I'm writing this as a professional classical musician who grew up with ABBA and always loved their music from the very beginning. Thankyou for your insights. What is so interesting to me is that all these younger generation listeners (many of whom are presenting their overwhelmingly positive reviews on KZbin) have PRECISELY the same reaction to this that we had back in 1975/6 when we heard ABBA for the first time (especially in Australia, where I grew up and ABBA was beloved from the start). This is what those of my generation find so moving: our kids and grandkids are experiencing what WE experienced at their age. It unites us. It's visceral: I think it's also largely because the music is so excellent: great melodies, highly sophisticated arrangements by really well-trained and creative musicians and a variety of moods in words and music that range from introspective/thoughtful through to full-on disco dance (as you hear in the opening of this sure-fire hit) - the effect is timeless, joyous like The Beatles, who were also wonderful sophisticated musicians who never stopped learning and growing. It shows that pop music can truly be great, and broad in its appeal to people of all ages and cultures. I was 20 when I first heard ABBA and loved their music from the start. I was as impressed by them as people as I was by their music. The reaction (and the surprise!) of so many younger listeners today shows powerfully how generations (and, perhaps, even, the world) can actually come together through music, even with all the sad divisions that exist elsewhere. This is powerful for everyone. Just listen to the end of Don't Shut Me Down, as it spins off into a quiet eternity - amazing, brilliant. Not to mention the sophisticated bass-line, the string riffs and the interesting and surprising harmonies - no clichés here! This is what makes it interesting on multiple listenings. One other thing I haven't (yet) heard anyone else observe (perhaps you need to have lived through the entire ABBA phenomenon to pick this aspect up): this song, and the entire album are deeply autobiographical: the words of Don't Shut Me Down are a reflection of ABBA's own history of highs and lows, and their final reappearance before their audience after 40 years - just follow the words of this particular song - it's THEIR story. The album collectively is like the final chapter of a great novel we've waited decades for, made more powerful than the earlier (wonderful) albums because of the added power of 40 years of lived experience, the journey taken, the joys and sorrows that provide extra layers of depth to something that was always exciting and beautiful. Just listen to the Ode to Freedom (which sounds a bit like a waltz from one of Tchaikovsky's ballets). This is (in ABBA's own words) the final ABBA song, and it sounds like the end of a great journey. This is especially powerful for people because it represents our universal, shared human experience. And that is why I think people of all ages (and all cultures globally) are responding to this so powerfully. I'm very moved by this album and even more so by the effect that it is having on listeners of all ages - I love that young listeners are also moved by it. Thankyou for posting your heartfelt, insightful and important reactions to this important creative work. It's much appreciated and does a lot of good. Maybe, through music and our universal love for it, there's hope for the human race yet!

1. I Still Have Faith in You is malancholic, it's the type of song which grows in you as you listen to it more and more often. 2. Don't Shut Me Down is more upbeat and dancy, the type which you like straight away. Conclusion- Both are great and have their own strengths. Just enjoy them as they are
