I have every ABBA album, and 75 ABBA songs in my library. "The Album" is probably the best. Every song is great. Listening to it all will take you on a great ride. "Move On" and "One Man, One Woman" are my favorites.

I like this song better than Dancing Queen actually. It just grows….. ABBA is not just a discoband, a lot of influences in their music and you will notice. They have sold so many records, have had 10 number1-albums in UK for example. ABBA is goat of pop, more than just disco.

Such a talented group and Swedish , who knew the Swedes would become so iconic after winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 . Lovely vocals , the girls voices complement each other's perfectly .

Never fails. ABBA did ONE Disco Themed Album. The other 8 Albums were Pop Rock, Folk, Theatrical and Classically influenced music, yet people always associate Dancing Queen as the ABBA sound. That is so far from the truth. This Album, The Super Trooper Album and The Visitors really showed their maturity in music. Unfortunately ABBA was stereotyped in the US by Dancing Queen. IMHO Dancing Queen is NOT among their top 10 songs. I lived 3 years in Germany in the early 1980's when they were still super popular and you never heard Dancing Queen in the Bars and nightclubs. Try the songs Hole in your Sole off this same Album. Super Trooper, The Visitors, When all is said and Done, Soldiers, Eagle, One Man, One Woman, Move on, I let the Music Speak, Our Last Summer, One of us and the Super sensuous song Andante, Andante. You will come away absolutely amazed.

As more you listen to that song as more you like it. So you may imagine people those days who were used to listening to Abba songs like Dancing Queen or Mamma Mia were really surprised and unsure about that song. Today I prefer listening to The Name of the Game because it's so different and not their usual sound. Same with their 80s songs like "The Visitors " .

5:25 Yes!! That's really well said, a lot of ABBA songs build up like that. Other great examples are Take a Chance on Me (from the same album as this) and Fernando which are both really good songs

These is an extraordinary song by ABBA, which has many peculiarities: 1) I think it's the first in which each of the girls sings a verse as lead voice the blonde Agnetha in the pre chorus and the brunette Frida in the post chorus 2) the official video was recorded at the blonde Agnetha & blonde Björn's home, because Agnetha was very late in her second pregnancy (that's why maybe she's sitting and cared for in the picture) 3) "The name of the game" was released in October 1977, two month before "ABBA The Album" and the movie "ABBA The Movie" It was a bold gamble from ABBA, it opened their horizons and spread beyond pop. I think that "The name of the game" (1977) have some vibs of influences of BEATLES songs like "Penny Lane" or "Fool on the hill" (1967) curiosly, "The name of the game" was #1 in UK (4 weeks) and replaced in the #1 for "Mull of Kintyre" by Paul McCartney (ex BEATLES member) it was the lead single of ABBA The Album, followed by Take a chance on me in the next year another curiosity The name of the game was #1 only in UK "The name of the game" is in my opinion a Masterpiece and maybe the most complex song of ABBA one of the Seven Wonders of ABBA (in chronological order): Waterloo S.O.S Dancing Queen The name of the game Chiquitita The winner takes it all Don't shut me down (all songs differents in styles or genres, because ABBA is versatility (as The Beatles) You have fantastic songs in "The Album" (1977) , ABBA's most versatile album: "Eagle" almost 6 minutes amazing "Take a chance on me" (the banger hit) "One man one woman" (beauty ballad) "The name of the game" (the most complex) but there are most surprise in the nexts songs "Move on" "Hole in your soul" included a mini musical from 1977 Tour: "Thank you for the music" "I wonder" "I'm a marionette" I hope to see you with more ABBA songs I'm your channel My best regards from Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷 South America PS: at the time of the recording and official video (1977) the blonde singer Agnetha and the guitarist Björn was married since 1971, with one child in 1973 and in pregnancy of their second child (the only official video with Her pregnant) the brunette singer Frida and the bearded keyboardist Benny was engaged and living together since 1969 and married next year 1978

They are such a talented band! I wish both couples would have staid together! They have such a massive fan base around the world that it's mind boggling! I've heard they are, or have in the recent past done a tour with holograms of themselves! I find that very interesting and very creepy at the same time! What would be ideal is to step into a functional time machine, and see them in concert at their prime back in the 1970's! All sarcasm aside, they are a great band and I enjoy most of their music! Ciao!

'Waterloo' was the song that placed them one the map. The song introduced the world to ABBA when they entered a Euro Song Contest and won first place in 1974. Many other European artists represented their own countries while ABBA represented Sweden.

Every tune ABBA released is different from every other ABBA tune. Bjorn and Benny had many influences that American, British, and Canadian song writers did not. Do yourself a huge favor and listen to any of the 19 world-wide ABBA hits. Personally, I like "The Winner Takes It All" for the emotion, the composition, and the incredible vocals. I also like "Take A Change On Me" for other reasons. I resisted ABBA in the 70s because I was a rocker and rockers don't like pop. Or so I thought. I was in my sixties before I "discovered" them on my own musical journey.

This song is very creative and original sounding. The dynamics and chord structure are engaging for anyone who actually has the ability to really listen to music with focus rather than the attention of a casual listener. It is everything that current pop music is not. If you like it, put it in your fricking phone already! :)

Dancing Queen is a tough act to follow for sure. Do not sell Abba short as some kind of 'one hit wonder' though. Bennie and Bjorn were/are masterful song writers and the girls are great. This is one of their best. You warmed up to it as it played and it would grow on you even more if you heard it again.

One of their best. The Fugees sampled it in "Rumble in The Jungle" kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZyZl6CIqZuArLc ABBA is categorised as a pop band, and people think about them as a disco group but it is far from true. ABBA has made every genre of music : pop, rock, rock-opera, instrumental, musical, electro, ballads, funk, groove, prog, classical... the versatility of the group is, IMO, unmatched in music history. About "disco", nothing like Boney M or Village People, they made their own disco sound and only a few songs. In Fact, ABBA is a genre of its own. And I think, this is why their music is still relevant and fresh today because They are unique.

The more Abba' I listen to, the more Iike the punchy, heavy bass/drum sound they used on their records,,It really made a diff..This is the only song of thiers I ever heard an electric guitar on, and what he's playing is very cool..Great summation..It does sneak up on ya, dosen't it?

Everyone thinks ABBA is only Dancing Queen anthem though it is. Not enough knowledge of ABBA's catalogue which varies wildly for a lot of reactors. Try a ballad, Fernando. You will not be disappointed. The two women's vocals have yet to be matched since I believe.

When these guys came on the scene they broke the mould of the music bak then . They started out as 2 couples and split hence they make songs like The Name Of The Game Winner Takes It All .Knowing Me Knowing You These are all Break up songs of their own experiences . Anyway most of their songs are happy ones and boy can those girls sing . These guys had more hits sold more records and albums of all time except for the Beatles of course . They are truly Talented writing there own songs and music . Agneth Benny Bjorn Anna-Frida . The First Letter of the Names Spells ABBA .Thats how they named the band . Thanks for another great reaction , Try Fernando It is a great song from them . John
