This is one of their most sophisticated songs. It's got 4 or 5 different melodies, all in less than 5 minutes. And the genius is that you don't realize this until you listen closely, because it all flows so well together. Don't let anyone tell you they made simple music, nothing could be further from the truth.

Far and away my favourite ABBA song. That insistent beat, the backing vocals, that synth trumpet fanfare in the chorus, all add so much to the song to raise it to genius level.

Sometimes I think that in the US people don't know how big ABBA was. In 1977 they played at the Royal Albert Hall in London - capacity 5,272. Tickets had to be purchased by mail. The box office received 3.5 Million requests for tickets. If they would have been able to handle all of the requests the crowd would have been almost 8 times the size of Woodstock.

The Fugees used a sample of this in ‘Rumble in the jungle’. It was the first time that Benny and Björn have allowed a sample. In fact they’ve only allowed it twice. The other was Madonna for ‘Hung Up’.

ABBA were just something else. Please ready to The Visitors. It’s an amazing track of theirs. It wasn’t a single but it really set the tone at the start of the 80s with concerns about the Cold War. They were also about to split up as a group so there’s added tension too. As for other female artists, I know you’ve reacted to some Kate Bush before. She is one of a kind. Cloudbusting, The Man With The Child In His Eyes, Army Dreamers, Breathing, King Of The Mountain, the whole of side 2 of Aerial, and the whole of The Ninth Wave. Also, I think you would love Judie Tzuke. Stay With Me Til Dawn was her only hit but she’s had so many great songs.

There is a reason they are one of the top-selling groups in history, with 500,000,000 records sold worldwide, and 28 hits, and they were only active for about 8 years. That is in the Beatles and Michael's orbit. Such talented singers, musicians, writers, producers, and arrangers. It's like they invented pop music!

They completely mastered the art of a melody and countermelody. Verse and chorus. Some songs even have two different choruses, which just seem to work naturally with each other. Then upon that, bridges are often small works of art in themselves. Like the acapella part in this song for example. And the girls were both trained sopranos with incredible range. They also had access to the cream of Swedish studio musicians at the time, plus an inventive and skilled studio engineer.

I have a request for you, and that is the last song ABBA ever recorded, well... until recently. There are a couple of new songs on their way, actually! The song I am thinking about is The Day Before You Came. This is a legendary song, and there are a lot of theories about the meaning of the lyrics, especially in the context of the video. This is a great song that was one of their last hits before they "retired" in '81/'82. They had a terrific production sound that was years ahead of their time. Well, Led Zeppelin last album sounds different but it's not because of what you said, it's because Jimmy Page become a deeper heroin consumer, so John Paul Jones, the bassist and keyboards player was on command of most of the arrangements, dominated by keyboards and a more melodic sound
